I am writing to ask you to support the Reparations for Black Students resolution on the agenda for tonight's OUSD Board meeting. I am a resident of District 2 and the parent of an OUSD 1st grader and another future OUSD student.
Our city and school district boast of being among the most diverse in the nation, yet we have not accounted for decades of divestment in Black students and communities. Resolution 2021-0037 is the beginning of a long overdue reinvestment in Black students and communities, and I hope you will support it at tonight's meeting.

“Please VOTE YES on the Reparations for Black Students Resolution - to repair the harm caused by decades of disinvestment - and to reinvest in Black students, families, schools, and staff in OUSD." As an OUSD forty year veteran teacher and principal, I wholeheartedly endorse this resolution. It identifies and seeks to rectify the actions which have supported Anti-Black Racism in the district. Among other things, I have witnessed school closures of predominately Black schools which virtually displaced students and fractured communities and have seen Black families marginalized in parent groups at schools. It is our obligation to adopt a comprehensive, focused plan which truy supports our Black students and families.
Please VOTE YES on the Reparations for Black Students Resolution - to repair the harm caused by decades of disinvestment - and to reinvest in Black students, families, schools, and staff in OUSD.
