As a high school teacher in OUSD for the past 10 years, I’ve seen first-hand the ways that Black students are systematically underserved and then pushed out of our schools. We are long overdue for an acknowledgement of this grave injustice, coupled with concrete and actionable steps toward justifying it. The Black Students Resolution provides just that. The disinvestment from our Black children and neighborhoods is decades long and each one of us in the community is responsible for the harms done and for the significant reinvestment necessary to right these wrongs.
