As a community member of District 3, I strongly urge you all to please VOTE YES on the Reparations for Black Students Resolution —to repair the harm caused by decades of disinvestment— and to reinvest in Black students, families, schools, and staff in OUSD. Your constituents have had enough lip service. Your children have had enough lip service. Now is the time for action.

If Black lives truly matter and if Black History month means more than lip service - it’s time to do something comprehensive to support Black students NOW - that actually results in all Black students achieving. There has NEVER been a solution to match the scale of the problem. There has NEVER been a comprehensive, multi-year, systemic plan and significant resources to protect and prioritize Black children.
As a Black Parent and Community member, this is why I support this resolution.
Over the past 10 years, due to Anti-Black school closures and Anti-Black racism - 450 Black students have been pushed out of the district EVERY YEAR. This results in $7Million dollars of lost resources (in Average Daily Attendance money). That money could have been used to help ALL students.
The most FINANCIALLY RESPONSIBLE decision you can make and the DECISION THAT TELLS BLACK STUDENTS THEY MATTER: is to VOTE YES on the Reparations for Black Students Resolution TONIGHT!

By voting in support of the Reparations for Black Students Resolution, you say yes to making a difference for marginalized students who have been left behind by OUSD. The loss of Black students from the District over the past 15 years is appalling, and must be rectified...but without opening the door and beginning to rebuild trust between the District the Black community, we cannot expect to see real, measurable change. This measure is the first step toward change -- I urge you to support it, and to vote yes, because by lifting up our Black students, we will lift all our students at a time in history when students need us more than ever to ensure that they're thriving.
