We can never be a city, county, or state that works toward justice without acknowledging and taking steps to address the years of systemic neglect of certain communities. Please VOTE YES on the Reparations for Black Students Resolution to repair the harm caused by decades of disinvestment and to reinvest in Black students, families, schools, and staff in OUSD.

Please VOTE YES on the Reparations for Black Students Resolution - to repair the harm caused by decades of disinvestment, institutional violence, ongoing marginalization, and lack of responsiveness to the needs of Black students - and to reinvest in Black students, families, schools, and staff in OUSD. School closures are just one way that we continue to participate in the destabilization of the black community. This policy will address the long-standing need for black students to be centered in our policies. It will allow OUSD to lead the nation in addressing some of the ways we know anti-blackness shows up in schools. If we truly are to be an antiracist district, we need to enact policies that are antiracist.

Please VOTE YES on the Reparations for Black Students Resolution. The Black student academic achievement gap is unconscionable in Oakland, CA. We need to prioritize Black students in a clear and systematic way within OUSD.

My name is Judy. I stand for Asian and black solidarity and the understanding the inequity for one group of an injustice for all.

We must lift our black students up. Honor them nurture them and fight for their right to quality education. If Black Lives Matter. If it truly matters, that means only their lives but their education, their jobs, their quality of life matters and we must fight for that.

My name is Krea Gomez, I am a proud parent of a Black student currently in 6th grade at Elmhurst. I am also a Director at the Young Women's Freedom Center. On behalf of my family and the Black girls and gender non-conforming youth we work with, we ask you to adopt the Reparations for Black Student Resolution. The call to ensure Black students feel safe, thrive academically and that them and their families are supported with resources that will enhance their academic experience is honestly what OUSD should already be doing. We know that when Black girls feel safe and respect in school are engaged in lessons and curriculum where they see themselves, they thrive and excel. We know recidivism is reduced when Black girls education is prioritized. Lets make the commitment to Black students NOW, we can discuss money later. As long as OPD continues to get overtime funded w/o evidence it improves outcomes, we can find the money in this city to ensure Black youth excel in school. Thank you.
