Now is the time to take the blinders off and put money where your mouth is. If you care, let's do this. Please be compassionate and empathetic. The hype/propaganda must stop. Our children deserve better.

As a teacher at Elmhurst United in District 7, I implore you to VOTE YES on the Reparations for Black Students Resolution - to repair the harm caused by decades of disinvestment - and to reinvest in Black students, families, schools, and staff in OUSD. In the deep East we have seen firsthand the impact of disinvestment, environmental racism, school closures, and Prop 39 co-locations. Our Black students need and deserve better. And when they are cared for, all students are cared for.

Please vote YES on this reparations resolution. The legacy of slavery has not been healed, and generations of Black folks living here are still suffering its harmful consequences. Without the passing of this resolution, Black children will continue to be funneled into the school to prison pipeline. Oakland has the opportunity to show what it looks like to reinvest in their community and OUSD has the opportunity disrupt their active participation in the incarceration of Black youth.

Too long has this city and school board prioritized profit over the needs and interests of working class black people. It is time to start changing that course! Vote to support reparations for Black students! History will not look kindly on those that stand in the way of justice and liberation!

Board Members, please vote YES on this resolution. As an OUSD community, we owe it to our Black students, families, and staff to specifically invest in them. This is a necessary step toward racial justice by acknowledging the foundational existence and harm of anti-Black racist policies in our schools and communities. This is long overdue! Vote yes and support this resolution.
