As an educator, I am aware that we have to committed efforts to dismantle an inequitable racist government system. Please vote YES for this measure and explicitly include actions to collectively move OUSD towards a more antiracist organization.

I urge you to VOTE YES on Reparations for Black Students! It’s time to do more than celebrate Black History month and live into our values. It’s time to invest in Black students, educators and staff so that OUSD public schools are a place where Black students thrive instead of fighting to survive. We can do this with your support tonight! Parent of an OUSD elementary Black/Latino student.

I urge you to vote YES on this resolution to interrupt the years of harm our systems and policies have caused our Black students and families and embrace the work we need to do as a district to be a public education system for all of our students.

Please VOTE YES on the Reparations for Black Students Resolution! All Black people and many other communities of color and indigenous populations in this country deserve reparations, and this resolution is an important start! Voting yes is the tip of the iceberg in shifting the school to prison pipeline. OUSD students and families, teachers and staff deserve this and so much more!

We have the opportunity to begin to right the wrongs that have happened historically and currently.
Please vote in support of the resolution - you have the opportunity to make Black history this month - vote on the right side of justice and history.

“Cowardice asks the question, 'Is it safe?' Expediency asks the question, 'Is it politic?' Vanity asks the question, 'Is it popular?' But, conscience asks the question, 'Is it right?' And there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular, but one must take it because one's conscience tells one that it is right”

Vote yes on the Reparation for Black Students Resolution. This resolution is long overdue. As an educational researcher, it is clear that OUSD has historically (and continues) to disinvest in Black life and freedom. Now is the time to make material changes to redress these injustices. OUSD has the opportunity to begin to repair the harm schooling systems have caused Black students, families, and communities.
