20-2019 Submission Public Hearing by the Board of Education of Lighthouse Community Charter Public Schools - Lodestar: A Lighthouse Community Public School - Petition and Proposed Charter - Grades K-12 - July 1, 2021 - June 30, 2023 (2 Year Renewal).
I am a retired attorney and have volunteered at both Lodestar and Lighthouse schools. I’ve been really inspired by the quality and commitment of the teachers and the enthusiasm of the students about learning and exploring new concepts. Kids are getting real opportunities there to excel!
I strongly support Lodestar renewal!
Lodestar is a school where families and students feel supported by the adults around them. The administration is always responsive to the needs of their staff and students and is constantly asking themselves how they can do better. We need schools, now more than ever, that don't feel tied to the status quo. As a teacher, I have seen how the teachers around me are pouring their hearts into their students to live into our core values of love, community, social justice, agency, and integrity. They believe in each one of their students and are willing to go above and beyond to make a connection that can make a difference. My children adore the school. As they said in our crew this morning, "We should be allowed to vote! If we voted, Lodestar would get 100% yeses!" Lodestar formed these 8 year old into children who have an opinion and are ready to speak their mind. They have formed them into critical thinkers who notice and are ready to fight against injustice.
I've been working for Lighthouse Community Public Charter Schools for almost 3 years. This is an organization that really strives to live up to it's core values of LOVE, INTEGRITY, COMMUNITY, SOCIAL JUSTICE and AGENCY. From top to bottom, Lodestar and Lighthouse focus on quality instruction and meaningful family engagement. The leaders of the schools are committed to making sure families are part of the process and that students are prepared for post-secondary education if they so choose OR a pathway that will help them be productive members of society. I can't say enough good things about what this school is about. The people here really care. They are truly an asset to the communities they serve. Keep Lighthouse and Lodestar open!
As a supporter of Lighthouse Community Because I have been in this school for 8 years now, I have 2 students, one in second grade and one in seventh grade, for me the school is very complete and supports our children always, in my case I have always been listened to and respected, my children are happy and as a parent I am very happy with the communication I maintain with my children's teachers, I hope they do not close the school because it is a very good school and we need more schools, how is it where both parents and students feel happy and respected.
I have been fortunate enough to experience firsthand the unwavering and joyous commitment to the Oakland community that the Lighthoues Community Charter Public Schools demonstrates on a daily basis. Lodestar is dedicated to ensuring that every student knows they belong there, that each child has what they need to truly thrive in their classrooms and belong. This is an organization that truly believes in the capability of every student to go out and change the world for the better. However, what pushes Lodestar beyond is their equal commitment to every member of their community including staff, teachers, parents and families, local business, and neighbors. I am proud to support and advocate for Lodestar's charter renewal, every child and every teacher deserves a school like this.
I am a proud parent of an 8th grader at Lodestar. She has spent her entire middle school years growing and shining there. I am so grateful for the education she receives, as well as the support she receives from teachers and mentors. Please consider the 2-year renewal? We need Lodestar

This school provides a needed educational option and equitable and loving community for its students and families in East Oakland. In the midst of the COVID-19's peak earlier this year, I saw firsthand the earnest, unwavering commitment of the teachers and staff, working quickly and tirelessly (and who continue to do so!) to provide students with high-quality and stable learning experiences in an unparalleled time. Please renew the charter for this incredible school and its students and community.
As a family member to two longtime Lodestar/Lighthouse educators, I have seen firsthand the incredible devotion the entire organization has applied over many years to serving its community with rigorous, high-quality programs that meet the needs of each individual child. The results speak for themselves - one Lighthouse grad I recently had the pleasure of meeting is now thriving in law school and prepared to return back to his community to serve in a leadership role. More than just academics (where the school exceeds expectations), Lodestar develops the student's whole person, inculcating lifelong values of justice, responsibility, and service. Please give Lodestar the opportunity to fully develop the potential that it has already demonstrated in its achievements as a young school.
I'm a father of two kids at Lodestar school. I see a big improvement in my kids also the school staff are very attentive on the kids. This school makes you feel safe and part of something greater.

so many parents send their children to this school. they need to stay open, children already have a foundation and the parents already have a set support system and to have to start over with new people at a new place will be taxing on the children’s mindsets and the parent’s as well.
Lodestar is one of the best thing that happen here in our community. The diversity the commitment that the staffing has show each and every kids there is something that worth of looking forward to. I have 4 kids that they are student of lodestar charters school. Our family has blessed these past few years that my kids joined Lodestar. I am so proud to be part of these great school. The efforts and values that the staffs has share and teaching our kids with a core values in life that each kids need to confirm there is still hope to get to the end of the tunnel. I am so happy to stand together with a great people and a great family also a great community to show everyone that this opportunity that we get from lodestar that there hope for each kids in our here in Oakland. I am 100% stand for something that I know will be a great and strong features for our kids here in our community. #Shine Lodestar shine our kids is our future here for our community we need to do what is right for ours.
When I was pregnant with my Daughter 10 years ago, I always thought of Light House Investigate how it was, and the information I found is that it is one of the best schools. They care about students, they are aware of all children, they care about social justice, they promote different values, they teach them love and respect for the same, in addition to giving so much protection to children, they take care of them so much and that is what is needed today. Teachers and staff who are on the slope in the face of the situations we are experiencing. Let me have my daughter graduate and many more children can graduate. It's necessary for our community not to shut it down. Think about our children's feelings please.
I support Lodestar's two year renewal. As a Lodestars parent. I believe this is a great school for my children. One with an IEP an one without. As a OUSD employee I believe Oakland has gave me the opportunity to take advantage of both settings public and or charter giving me the ability to take the best decision for my children.
