This process has been rushed and is harming Black and Brown families as well as students with disabilities disproportionately. Please stop this now by voting yes on this resolution.

I support the amendment to postpone closures at Community Day School and Parker, and the truncation at La Escuelita. But I also demand the following:
    1. That OUSD move forward with an Equity Impact Analysis of the final, amended list of closures; and
    2. That OUSD conduct a fiscal analysis of the revised plans for closures and truncations.
This closure process - and its amendments - have been chaotic, non-strategic, and problematic from start to finish. Pushing back these closures and the truncation means there is time for the District to study the equity and fiscal impact of these changes, and determine whether they are truly worth the community cost. Please address the larger issues of this crises with comprehensive and strategic planning that keeps equity at the center of final decisions.

I do support this amendment, and if the Board can at least consider postponing the decision so our beloved teachers that haven't ate in more than two weeks can eat. The board should also consider speaking with the community to talk about whether the closures will actually be beneficial or unbeneficial.

I am opposed to school closures at this time. Please postpone to allow time for community engagement.

Please pass this resolution and take a step back. The financial analysis is rushed and flawed, and proposed savings at best is minimal, at worst could end up costing the district. There is absolutely no plan in place for transitioning students to other schools. "Welcoming" schools were not even made aware of their role. Proposed catchment lines feed into schools that are already over-subscribed. If the district wants to "right size" why not focus on retention. Do your job and defend public education, rather than push families to charters and private schools.

I am an Oakland resident in District 1, and I am disappointed that Sam Davis voted for the resolution to close the schools.

I support this amendment to postpone the school closures. (Really, I don't want the closures to happen at all, but for the amendment today I support postponing).

Please postpone any decision and save the starving teachers! I support the amendment to delay school closures in Oakland until (a) an Equity Impact Analysis has been completed, (b) a fiscal analysis has been properly carried out by the OUSD and (c) Black and Brown students and their families have been centered in any decision-making process impacting their schools.

I support this amendment, but I also think it does not go far enough. I understand the budget concerns. I understand that fewer, bigger schools "usually" have more resources. But have we seen that to be the case at any of the larger schools in Oakland yet? Students who attend a site like Community Day School benefit the most from having a full-time therapist and the one-on-one support that is just not feasible at larger schools. Where will they go when that site has been taken from them? How will you prevent students from being expelled and falling directly into gang violence when they have nowhere to turn and no one to help them? These are not students who will be able to drive to Hayward to attend an Alameda County service instead, and they are struggling too much to be given the responsibility of independent study within Oakland. These students need help, and right now schools are the only secure and stable place to give them that. Don't turn your backs on children.

A the least you need to postpone this decision and work to do any closures in a better way, with community engagement, public forums, an opportunity for parents, students and teachers to have meaningful input and a plan for how all of this will work towards some future goals.
