I support to postpone the school closures, because there is no good reason to close them down. This could impact the youth community in many ways.

I sincerely hope the board passes this amendment, if for no other reason than your community is screaming at you PLEASE DON'T DO THIS. We need you to listen to us to earn our trust. This would show you're listening, that you care, that you're diligent. There's so much distrust in Oakland of our leaders; closing schools in this way will do more harm long term than good, even if it does save money as you report it will.

I strongly oppose school closure at all, but especially the plan to do so this year. We need more time AND community planning/input in order to make such dramatic changes in a way that feels respectable to the community. If there is a need to merge or close schools, the community should take the lead on how we handle this not the district. The community is also strong enough to come up with other plans to save our schools and make sure the budget is able to provide services and necessities to all school sites.

Vote YES to postpone school closures in order to find another way to balance the budget without taking away schools from black and brown students. As a Social Worker at an Oakland high school I see how important schools are to these students well being. The structure, support, and socialization that happens at schools is a life saver for so many kids. Don't take this from them too!

Postpone! And then don’t do it. Invest in Black communities and Black children and Black futures. Stop the divestment and closures.
Whatever happens next should involve community voice. Please postpone and get community input into the planning.
