I support the amendment to POSTPONE Oakland school closures. I and many other people, see right through your blatant attempt to privatize schools in Oakland and push out lower income families. Instead of privatizing you need to invest in ways to make these public schools as high quality as the private/charter schools you intend to replace them with. Private and charter schools are NOT accessible to most of the students these closures will push out. I implore you to consider and reflect on how many majority white/wealthy schools are on the list for closure? None. Because those are the only students/communities you seem to care about and support.
I also join the community in demanding the following: 1. That OUSD move forward with an Equity Impact Analysis of the final, amended list of closures; 2. That OUSD conduct a fiscal analysis of the revised plans for closures and truncations.
Let the voters decide! Stop all school closures this year. There is a school board election this year. Let the voices of Oaklanders be heard, by delaying school closures so that the voters can way in. Allow the democratic process to unfold. These are the people's schools. Let the people vote as this current board has obviously lost the faith and confidence of the community, city council, students, families, and workers in this district. Let a responsive and direct democracy prevail. These are not your schools, they are the publics and the public deserve to weigh in.
I support the proposed amendment to postpone closing and merging schools. Furthermore, over the next year, the Board should seriously consider all other options to address anticipated budget shortfalls and/or find other revenue sources rather than close or consolidate schools without support from the affected school communities.
As an OUSD parent, I support the amendment to postpone any school closures and truncation. I also demand that OUSD move forward with an Equity Impact Analysis as well as a fiscal analysis to address the larger reasons why school closures continue to be pushed as a solution.
I oppose all school closures and consolidations planned for the end of this school year. Please listen to the community. Do not create conditions that allow Oakland public education to be dominated by private interests. Of the seven districts your resolution compares to OUSD, Oakland has 32% public school students in charter schools and 22% African American students compared to Stockton, the next highest, at 15% charter enrollment and 10% African American. One size (of district) does not fit all populations!
I support this amendment to postpone the closures of Parker Elementary and Community Day and the truncation at La Escuelita. I also embrace and applaud Moses Omolade and André San-Chez, whose heroic sacrifices have brought us to this moment.
I join with fellow community members in also demanding the following:
1. That OUSD move forward with an Equity Impact Analysis of the final, amended list of closures; and
2. That OUSD conduct a fiscal analysis of the revised plans for closures and truncations.
I support the amendment to delay school closures in Oakland until (a) an Equity Impact Analysis has been completed, (b) a fiscal analysis has been properly carried out by the OUSD and (c) Black and Brown students and their families have been centered in any decision-making process impacting their schools
I support the amendment to delay school closures in Oakland until (a) an Equity Impact Analysis has been completed, (b) a fiscal analysis has been properly carried out by the OUSD and (c) the affected communities have had sufficient time to engage with local and state legislative, educational and fiscal authorities.
I support the amendment to postpone closures at Community Day School and Parker, and the truncation at La Escuelita. But I also demand the following:
1. That OUSD move forward with an Equity Impact Analysis of the final, amended list of closures; and
2. That OUSD conduct a fiscal analysis of the revised plans for closures and truncations.

This closure process - and its amendments - have been chaotic, non-strategic, and problematic from start to finish. Pushing back these closures and the truncation means there is time for the District to study the equity and fiscal impact of these changes, and determine whether they are truly worth the community cost. Please address the larger issues of this crises with comprehensive and strategic planning that keeps equity at the center of final decisions.
The Alameda County Office of Education, Oakland City Council, and Assembly members Mia Bonta and Buffy Wicks are ALL opposed to rushing through school closures without meaningful community input.
I support this amendment and demand that OUSD give more time to meaningfully engage the community and conduct Equity Impact Analyses for all proposed closures, mergers and truncations.
I support the amendment to postpone school closures. We need to center Black and Brown students in the decision-making process, and this hasn't been done to date.

I support the amendment. The process has been deeply flawed from the start, with little meaningful community engagement or analysis. It's clear that the community has no faith in how the school board has handled this.

School is definitely important to our future and how our generations will succeed.
