As an Oakland public schools educator, I strongly encourage the Board to please VOTE YES on the Reparations for Black Students Resolution - to repair the harm caused by decades of disinvestment - and to reinvest in Black students, families, schools, and staff in OUSD
It's time to repair generations of damage to Black students and prioritize policy that will uplift these students!
I attended the meeting where the board voted to close Roots and I'll never forget seeing the damage inflicted on those students right before my eyes. School closures hurt children, period, and in Oakland they've disproportionately hurt Black students. We need fully funded community schools where Black children feel pride in their schools and a sense of belonging.
VOTE YES on the Reparations resolution WITHOUT AMENDMENTS!!!
Please vote yes without amendments. We must move forward with reparations so we can continue to work together to heal as a community and lift our black neighbors, especially during this pandemic where the disparities in health and socioeconomic factors are larger than ever.
I 100% whole-heartedly support Reparations for Black Students! Words cannot express how explicitly strong I feel it is to pass this resolution without amendments. It is of the utmost importance and it is the right thing to do.

Thank you for the incredible work you've done on meals and Oakland Undivided. I look forward to another great endeavor on this front. I hope you will make Oakland proud by prioritizing this effort and letting our Black families and voices lead. This starts by passing the resolution AS IS, please.
Please VOTE YES on the Reparations for Black Students Resolution - to repair the harm caused by decades of disinvestment - and to reinvest in Black students, families, schools, and staff in OUSD.
It’s time for the OUSD Board of Directors to invest in historically Black schools and end the anti-Black school closure policy by voting YES on the Reparations resolutions WITHOUT AMENDMENTS.
Please vote YES on the Reparations for Black Students Resolution, with no amendments. I am a 5th generation Oakland resident; my great-great-grandfather owned slaves, brokered cotton, and built his wealth for future generations on the backs of slave labor. Fast forward 150 years, and it is clear that now is the time, more than ever, for privileged families like mine to support reparations for our African American community, to begin the process of healing and to acknowledge the sins of the past. If not now, when?

As a parent and educator I urge you to vote YES on the Reparations for Black Students Resolution to repair the harm caused by decades of disinvestment and to reinvest in Black students, families, schools, and staff in OUSD.

Please VOTE YES on the Reparations for Black Students Resolution - to repair the harm caused by decades of disinvestment - and to reinvest in Black students, families, schools, and staff in OUSD. Show Black students, families, schools and staff in OUSD that you hear them, care for them, and will support them. Black students have the right to succeed in schools and be supported while doing so. VOTE YES.
I believe the Reparations for Black Students Resolution should be approved in order to begin the work needed to give our black students a fair chance to succeed and be effectively supported in Oakland's academic environment.
As a teacher in a majority Black school in D1 and a resident of D2 I STRONGLY encourage all Board members, and especially Directors Davis and Eng, to vote for the Resolution, as it, with no amendments. Do not cut the language about charter schools and colocations because you don't want to upset advocates for charter schools. You are the elected officials of the public school board and need to listen to your constituents-- and we are demanding strong investment in our Black students. Do not water this resolution down, leaving it toothless. Do the right thing for our Black students, families and educators, and support this resolution AS IS.
As a Latina voter and parent in D6, I stand in solidarity with black students in fighting for adequate resources in our schools. In particular, I’m concerned about the disproportionate impact that school closures have had on black students. I cannot understand why the board is considering amending this issue out the resolution as the most recent group of schools that are being considered for closure are over half black and include 2 schools in my own neighborhood. Please support the reparations for black students resolution without amendments.
Please VOTE YES on the Reparations for Black Students Resolution - to repair the harm caused by decades of disinvestment - and to reinvest in Black students, families, schools, and staff in OUSD. School closures have disproportionately affected the Black community in Oakland and will continue to. As an Asian American teacher in this district, I firmly support this resolution.
I strongly support reparations for Black students at OUSD. The time is now. As a nation and a community, we have waited far too long to try to make up for the systemic oppression that has gone on so long. Let's rise to our best selves as humans who can love and care for one other. Let's rise and grow and begin the healing process that's long overdue. Whatever it takes to start the amends process, let's DO this. We are at a pivotal moment in education history. There is no better use of our resources at a time like this.
As a twenty-year veteran of the Laney College English Department, and department chair, and College accreditation officer, I urge you to implement active funding, planning and programs that are dearly needed to support Black students adequately and ethically so that they have equitable access to educational opportunities. The Reparations Resolution is comprehensive, reasonable, and morally compelling -- and is consistent with what educators around the U.S. have identified as strategies that don't just "move the needle" but can possibly MOVE MOUNTAINS! -- Racism, and especially anti-Black racism, is 'a mountain' blocking literally everyone from basic human progress and wellness. Let's get to work moving it out of the way -- or levelling it! -- Please VOTE YES on the Reparations for Black Students Resolution - to repair the harm caused by decades of disinvestment - and to reinvest in Black students, families, schools, and staff in OUSD. -- Thank you in advance!
