I am writing as a member of Asians 4 Black Lives in support of OUSD adopting the resolution for Reparations for Black Students. It is crucial that we disrupt the school-to-prison pipeline, and understand that when we fund some of our most vulnerable Black youth, all of our youth, and our communities, benefit.
I've lived in North Oakland for 13 years, and I am a strong supporter of BOP's efforts to bring reparations to Black students! Sam Davis, I voted for you and organized others to vote for you and Aimee Eng- now is your chance to step up to what the people of Oakland demand and the youth of Oakland deserve.

This is a bad resolution made to look like social justice. VOTE NO. Critical race theory harms the very kids it claims to uplift. It damages self esteem, agency and resilience in young people. It contributes to mental health issues in teens. Look who’s behind this idea. We don’t need BLM activists in our schools. If schools underperform year after year and teachers fail to educate our kids in neighborhood schools yet cannot be fired, then we have to close those schools. Period. Keeping them open is not social justice. There is a reason why we didn’t send our children to Parker. Why the lottery system and charter schools are so popular in our neighborhood. You’re not doing us any favor by supporting this. Wake up. VOTE NO.
I am white and a fairly new resident of Oakland, but as I have researched and learned more about this city, the disparities in education are very apparent. Please VOTE YES on the Reparations for Black Students Resolution - to repair the harm caused by decades of disinvestment - and to reinvest in Black students, families, schools, and staff in OUSD. Tweaking the system or making small changes isn't going to repair the decades of harm from a dominant white culture that perpetuates oppression. Only by making bold, sweeping changes can some of the harm be corrected. I believe "Reparations for Black Students" can go a long way towards creating a more equitable, just, and better community. I am all for the common good, and I believe that means looking at where there is suffering and pain and spending the attention and resources to heal what is broken. Please make this bold step to heal Oakland and the students who need our help.
I am a single parent of twins boy and girl. There is enough stuff holding back our young black youth I am a disabled veteran. As so many black fathers and mothers are and yes we deserve for our children to have the support of this country in the have the education they deserve. For so many served in this country weather in the military are on our home front. Give our children what they deserve
As a 10 year educator in OUSD, I am writing to ask you to support reparations for black students as they have been presented by the community. We have been given the chance to listen to a part of the community we serve about what they need to thrive and we should take it.
I am a teacher at Bridges at Melrose and I support reparations for Black students in its entirety. Now is the time. We must not water down the repair that is needed for those harmed by OUSD. Be brave! Be bold and pass this resolution today.

I support Reparations for Black Students without amendments. We need to listen to Black families in OUSD. In this proposal, Black families are simply asking the school district for the support they need, the support that they should already be getting, and I challenge anyone to say exactly why any individual part of the proposal is an unreasonable request. OUSD has the funding already in place to grant these requests. The district has the opportunity to show with this action that Black families are an important part of the school district community and not just a token to show everyone how we are proud to be a "diverse" district. This proposal isn't going to solve every problem, but no single proposal can. It is a step in the right direction and one that I fully support.
As a product of OUSD K-12, an OUSD parent and an Oakland educator I URGE you to VOTE YES on the Reparations for Black Students Resolution - to repair the harm caused by decades of disinvestment - and to reinvest in Black students, families, schools, and staff in OUSD!
