Please adopt this resolution without any amendments. It is time for the city of Oakland to show our Black communities that we are serious about justice and equality. This has been delayed enough and the time has come to act.
I STRONGLY support Reparations for Black Students! As an Oakland resident of D3 I see daily the racial disparities in our community. It’s time for our school district to step up and do the real meaningful work of supporting black students instead of paying lip service. Do the right thing! Vote yes!
Please VOTE YES on the Reparations for Black Students Resolution - to repair the harm caused by decades of disinvestment - and to reinvest in Black students, families, schools, and staff in OUSD.
Vote YES for Reparations for Black Students. Now is the time to collaborate with Black students, families, schools and communities to repair the generations of disinvestment and make OUSD better for all.
As a mother, educator, resident of Oakland, and product of Oakland Public schools I fully support the Reparations for Black Students Resolution. Now is the time for Oakland Unified to put into action what we claim to be about.
I urge the Board to unanimously support the Reparations for Black Students resolution "as is" by it's authors, Board Directors: Williams and Hutchinson, with no amendments, and to the authenticity of the Black Community who developed it.
It's important for allies to understand when voicing their support to lift up Black voices and allow for folx to have the agency to create, develop, implement, and thrive.
Picking apart this resolution that has been tirelessly worked on by the Black community only further perpetuates white supremacy.
Let's center Black voices and collectively support Reparations for Black Students as it will have a positive impact on our Oakland community and will generate positive learning outcomes and allow for Black students to feel valued.
Oakland resident and mama urging you to VOTE YES on the Reparations for Black Students Resolution! One step to repair the harm caused by decades of disinvestment; one move toward reinvesting in Black students, families, schools, and staff in OUSD.
Please VOTE YES on the Reparations for Black Students Resolution - to repair the harm caused by decades of disinvestment - and to reinvest in Black students, families, schools, and staff in OUSD. This is long overdue!!
The history of our nation, state, city, and even school district has caused generational harm to the black community. This resolution is long overdue. Voting yes is doing the right thing for our school district.
Please VOTE YES on the Reparations for Black Students Resolution - to repair the harm caused by decades of disinvestment - and to reinvest in Black students, families, schools, and staff in OUSD.
I am writing this as a Black Womxn OUSD teacher and Bay Area native. I SUPPORT this action because it gives a very very very small fraction of the things provided by Black people in Oakland. They came and cultivate this community with little to no resources, and now we are being pushed out of our homes. Do we not deserve? This does not reflect the side of history I want to be on , or be emulated in my community. Everyday these conscious decisions we make, especially those who are elected this access to power, can change lives. I hope my words are not fully on deaf ears, but someone recognizing their power. Once again, I fully support reparations for Black people. I fully support the mobilization to a more equitable future. They deserve. Give them their things.
OUSD has way too many schools, and many of them are at less than half capacity. OEA and their sponsored organizations like Bay Area PLAN and J4OS have fought against OUSD school closures, mergers, and consolidations for a long time and have finally found a new way to reframe their opposition in a way that makes it sound racist to disagree with them.
I'm a teacher in OUSD, and I'm writing to ask that you please VOTE YES on the Reparations for Black Students Resolution - to repair the harm caused by decades of disinvestment - and to reinvest in Black students, families, schools, and staff in OUSD. We owe our Black students and families this. Please show them this support; it's LONG overdue.
Now is the time to repair decades of anti-blackness in our communities and district. Please pass this resolution in it's ORIGINAL form. Keep Historically Black Schools open and don't change the threshold to be considered HBS. This is the most important part of this resolution and the board needs to HONOR that and do what is right.
Please VOTE YES on the Reparations for Black Students Resolution - to repair the harm caused by decades of disinvestment - and to reinvest in Black students, families, schools, and staff in OUSD.
