It's time to stop doing what's acceptable and time to do what's right. Our time is now. Please vote yes on progress, change, and the advancement of our Black Students. Too long have we been silenced and made to wait our turn like good subservient second class citizens. Ya basta. We are the legacy let us not hinder the long arch of justice; Instead let us accelerate down the path to where we should have been at the end of being held as chattel .

I am in SUPPORT of the Reparations for Black Students resolution! It is way past time to begin reinvesting in communities that have been actively disinvested in for a very long time. The time is now!

The time is NOW to make this commitment to our Black students and families. There is a direct connection between anti-Black policies and actions and poor outcomes and pushouts of Black students. What would it mean to make this commitment to being ANTI racist and to repair generations of harm we have caused and instead invest in the success and wonderful excellence of Black youth? Every year, hundreds of Black students who we have failed leave OUSD - 800 on average. What if we choose instead to value and support those students? We could reinvest the millions of dollars we receive to educate them into the programs and services that will close the opportunity gap, as called for in this Resolution. There is literally NO EXCUSE to not do the right thing.

Our country needs reparations ASAP and it makes sense for Oakland to lead the way. Schools continue to be the site of preparing Black children to labor under white supremacy. We need to start our changes in schools. I am a community member, an Oakland School Volunteer (OUSD) tutor and zoom assistant, and I support the resolution for reparations for Black students. Thank you.
