Dear Board Members, I am a teacher at CCPA, a school that as you know is undergoing expansion. We can not serve our expanding student population without a new building. This was articulated in the plan for expanding into Roots. We already have numerous portables that augment our facilities space, but short-term solutions like portables is not good enough for our students. Please authorize the placing on the November 3, 2020 General Election Ballot a $735 Million Dollar General Obligation Bond to continue meeting the more than $3 billion physical infrastructure and facilities needs for District's K-12 Pupils.

In order to serve our community, the Board must continue to honor the decisions made from last year to CCPA. As a teacher at CCPA, I urge you to support and allocate funds to fulfill the promise from the Board’s strategic planning in building a new facility at CCPA. Please, do not leave my community and students with inadequate facilities, we need a new building to continue to serve our students as our school is expanding, we need to be ready.

As a teacher educator who works with schools across Alameda County, I urge the Board to help MLA secure the funds required for much needed improvements. MLA is a shining example of a quality public school in OUSD. While teachers, families, and solid leadership over the years have made MLA the high-demand school that it is, there is no denying that the lack of well ventilated classrooms, potable water, shade, lockers, lab space, and permanent classrooms stunt what is possible for existing students and keeps the doors closed for families wanting what is rightfully theirs -- a quality, public education in their own community. Make OUSD stronger by supporting MLA and expanding and enriching educational opportunities for bilingual / bicultural students.

I am in support and find it extremely important for CCPA to have funding for a new building. Our school has doubled and took over the Moderate Severe Special Ed program. I am the high school M/S teacher and already struggle to book places to hold IEP meetings. In the past I have had to double up and share a space with the middle school M/S classroom during these times or have my students be outside due to lack of space. When roots sadly closed down we were promised that if our school grew so would our campus. Please support this project at CCPA.

I support this bond. I want to express CCPA is in need for funding. We are growing as a community. We are over crowded in space for our students to learn and provided them with the necessary resources to be successful.

I am a parent of a third grader at Melrose Leadership Academy. MLA is desperately in need of facilities work. There is so much work to be done there, please keep MLA on the list for these bond improvements. I support this measure.

As a former student and now educator at CCPA, I believe it is extremely important to continue building the facilities that were promised to our students. The completion of these facilities will assure that we can continue to serve students from the community with the best quality of education. As CCPA continues to expand, it is necessary that we have enough facilities available to accommodate all students from 6th through 12th grade as promised.

I am writing to respectfully urge you to support this bond so that MLA may continue and expand its mission of providing high quality dual emersion education. The teachers and staff are doing their best with a school infrastructure much in need of major improvement (MLA is one of the schools in the district most in need of repairs). The pending separation of the campuses will be a major burden on students, teachers, parents and staff and the bond promises to help avoid that. Overall improvements will respond to the needs and demands of the growing MLA community. Thank you.

I ask the Board to include needed improvements to Melrose Leadership Academy in the use of these funds. Some of our classrooms get dangerously hot, it's not safe, much less the kind of environment students need to be able to focus and learn. The district already decided to grow our school years ago - and now that we've outgrown the existing space, we need expansion as well.

As a teacher at CCPA, I understand the finite space that students have utilization for at the current capacity and could imagine the dilemmas that could occur as the school continues to expand. I believe the board should strongly consider funding the growth of this east Oakland school in order to provide ample spacing for students in this current climate.

It is crucial that CCPA receives the funding for new facilities it was promised as part of the painful consolidation of Roots that took place last year. CCPA will now be doubling in size as part of Board's strategic plan, but lacks the space to accommodate this growth. Planning and construction takes time but CCPA has already started the expansion process so this must pass ASAP and include funding for the physical growth of the school. Furthermore, for a campus that will educate, feed and support roughly 1000 students it only makes sense to have a dedicated turf field so students can exercise, play and compete safely in their own neighborhood. For those that were outraged by the Roots closure please remember that CCPA expansion serves the community and families who had their school closed. For those who voted to consolidate Roots you did so knowing that CCPA would need more space. It is time to deliver on what was promised to this community.

As a staff and mother of a student attending CCPA, i support the project. Classes are overcrowded and our students need space. We need to give them more space to concentrate and get a better learning experience. No one can work in an overcrowded space.
