My son is currently enrolled at Lighthouse, and has been since Kindergarten. Throughout it all, he has loved going to school, the teachers have been respectful and supportive, and Lighthouse has all around been perfect in the way they handle and teach their students.
Lighthouse Community Charter has teachers who develop each other and support the diverse families and students in their community. Students are at the center of their work and grow academically, emotionally and behavioraly. The relationships made between staff and families is what allows for this growth to happen. I see the behind the scenes work teachers do to set their students up for success and that is why I support Lighthouse!
As a former teacher and current instructional coach, I advocate to support the approval of Lighthouse's charter. Lighthouse teachers and staff strive to support their students and families feel safe, held to high expectations, and are supported socially-emotionally. There are few opportunities to attend a K-12 school in Oakland and I look forward to seeing Lighthouse continue to be one of a number of schools in Oakland working hard to serve their students, especially during these uncertain times.
I fully support the charter renewal petition for Lighthouse Community Charter. For over a decade, Lighthouse has created opportunities for students to learn how to be lifelong change makers in the East Oakland community. Their core values of community and love have been ever present in their support of their families and students during the pandemic. Lighthouse is committed to black and brown excellence in East Oakland and deserves a 5 year renewal.
I have 2 children that go to Lighthouse and I don’t know where my children would go if lighthouse was closed. We live in East Oakland and there isn’t any other school that I would want my children to go to. I feel so lucky that my daughter was able to attend since kindergarten and now her younger sister attends as well. The idea that my children will be with the same children and have staff that has seen them grow up is something that can not be replaced. Please please keep this school open. My children absolutely love this school. The staff is amazing and it’s become like a family for us.
I am a parent of a student at Lighthouse and I also work in the education field. Lighthouse is a wonderful school. I really appreciate the individualized education they are able to provide for each student. The teachers and staff are really good at what they do. They take a holistic approach to teaching and understand that the kids' emotional and physical well-being is just as important as their education. They make a concerted effort to make sure the students have teachers who look like them. Lighthouse provides a rich multi-cultural environment that really celebrates the diversity of the students. I am extremely grateful for Lighthouse. I feel confident that my son is getting a high-quality education as well as a safe place to grow emotionally and physically and form life-long friendships.
Lighthouse has provided my daughter classroom support to help her manage her attention. She has the opportunity of having two adults in the classroom which reduce the adult student ratio. And the teachers care a lot about their students. Please approve Lighthouse charter renewal.

please let the success of the school speak for itself in making your decision. They are making tremendous strides in meeting math and ela standards as well as engaging students at high levels. They serve the underrepresented community of East oakland and they do it well. They meet qualifications via ab1505 to be renewed for 5 more years. This school means the world to so many kids and parents. Please give them 5 more years to show how they can rep the OUSD as an amazing district of public and charter schools working as a team to build amazing new graduates and successful business people.
Lighthouse is an essential part of our community— over the years, I’ve heard testimonies from lighthouse teachers, school leaders, parents, and community members about the positive impact lighthouse has for Oakland’s kids. With the charter-public debate raging locally, we need to look closely at each school community and see the value they have for families, especially for Black and Latino kids in Oakland. This school should continue to let its light shine in Oakland.
Lighthouse provides relentless support to its students and families. Amidst the uncertainties caused by the pandemic, keeping Lighthouse open will ease some of these worries that our families, students, and staff face and will help us to continue to provide resources for students and families.
My kids go to a non charter ousd school, but have taught lighthouse alum at community college, and have been in community with lighthouse family. The school serves a diverse community and foster community mindedness. The school is an asset to our city
My sister has been working at Lighthouse for 5 years. She talks about the dedication of the teachers and students. This school deserves to remain open so that they can keep teaching black and brown kids. Our Oakland youth deserve a place where they can be seen and heard and Lighthouse is just that!

Good afternoon, please renew lighthouse for another 5 years their numbers will reflect lighthouse dedicated teachers and staff , my daughter has learned so much at lighthouse she has a community of support , lighthouse has amazing teachers and staff and most of all has a plan to get my daughter off to college my daughter is only in 5th grade but even in kinder she and I both knew after the 1st week at lighthouse that college is achievable with hard work and the right education and the goals lighthouse have set for our children, lighthouse involves the parents in our children’s education and supports us as parents , lighthouse is an asset for Oakland’s future college bound generation, lighthouse has supported our daughter’s education thru the pandemic seamlessly for this I thank lighthouse staff and teachers for amazing show of support thru the pandemic.
