I am an Oakland teacher and I strongly SUPPORT the Black Organizing Project's demand to APPROVE the George Floyd Resolution now with no amendments. BOP has been demanding police free schools for 10 years - there's no more time to waste.

I am an OUSD parent and I strongly urge you to SUPPORT the Black Organizing Project's call to APPROVE the George Floyd Resolution to Eliminate the Oakland Schools Police Dept. Students have made clear that they do not feel safe in schools with armed police. Now is the time for you to stand with Oakland students, teachers, principals, parents and the Black Organizing Project for Police Free Schools.

I'm an Oakland resident and strongly urge you to pass the George Floyd resolution with no further amendments. We need to redirect funds for the current problematic policing program towards things that will lead for positive outcomes, like counseling, restorative justice, and other programs designed to support, rather than punish, students.

As a teacher who taught in East Oakland for 3 yrs, I fully support the passing of this resolution with no amendments. Police have never supported my students or their families and it is time to reinvest that money into better schools for our students and more supportive services for their families.

i am an oakland resident and native, and a social worker. i support the george floyd resolution with no further ammendments. the presence of school resource officers on OUSD campuses serve to reiterate systems of racist over surveillance of communities of color. police do not make our schools safer- they never have. the school board of oakland has made continued, egregious under investments in the social emotional health of the students you are charged to care for. the adoption of this resolution is the first step in a long process in operationalizing schools that serve every student. please adopt the Black Organizing Project's George Floyd Resolution without amendments.

I support the George Floyd Resolution, with no further amendments. We need counselors, nurses, psychologists, and restorative justice, not police. We need a community-led process to develop safety plans for our schools - one that doesn't involve the police.

I am a health care provider to adolescents in Oakland as well as a resident of Oakland and I support this resolution. The disproportionate criminalization of black and brown students of color contributes to the school to prison pipeline. This is systemic racism and it needs to stop. Young people need more mental health services and counselors, not a school police department. Please vote YES to eliminate the Oakland School Police force.

Police do not belong in places of learning and children are not a threat that need to be dealt with. Schools need funding for better textbooks, healthy and free meals, programmatic support, and higher pay for teachers and their budgets should not be surpassed by spending on police.

I am a resident of Oakland and I STRONGLY support the George Floyd Resolution. All evidence points to police presence in schools making schools LESS safe for our students, particularly Black and Brown students. I stand with the Black Organizing Project's strong and beautiful work. Listen to what they are very clearly telling you and showing you. OUSD School Board, right now Oakland is calling on you to finally listen to your community and care for students, not criminalize them.

I am an OUSD teacher and Oakland resident who has been lucky enough to work with "Educators for Black Sanctuary," an ad hoc group of educators who stand with BOP and support the George Floyd Resolution-- AS IS. When the world asked us to recreate schools due to COVID we didn't miss a beat. This is no different. Racism is a pandemic and we need to reimagine what our schools look like so that they are truly sanctuaries for all students, especially our Black and Brown students. As always, educators stand on the front lines, ready to fight with our students for the schools they deserve. Listen to our young people. Heed their call. Vote yes on the George Floyd Resolution to Eliminate School Police AS IS.

As a resident and voter in Oakland - ya'll need to pass this resolution right now with no amendments - do not pull the same tactics that the city council pulled last night. Listen to the people, listen to Black Organizing Project. Pass the resolution, get cops out of our schools so our kids will be safe again.

Let’s put OUSD on the right side of history and set the precedent for other school districts!! We need counselors and mental health professionals, not cops

I am a resident of Oakland in council district 3 and I strongly urge the Board to adopt the George Floyd Resolution to Eliminate the Oakland Schools Police Department. Schools are an environment to foster learning and growth not fear and violence at the hands of police. Money spent on police enforcement is money not spent on case managers, social workers, psychologists, restorative justice practitioners, academic mentors and advisors, culture and climate leads, or other mental or behavioral health professionals to meet the needs of students.

I am an educator who works with SDC & counseling enriched students. Not only is police presence at schools unnecessary, it is detrimental to the comfortable & safe learning environment we claim to push for/maintain. Many students I've worked with have expressed heightened anxiety, stress, and fear simply at the sight of police around their campuses. Adopt the George Floyd Resolution, invest in the futures of Oakland youth.

As a parent and educator I wholeheartedly support the resolution to eliminate police from Oakland schools. Please have the courage invest in the services that will actually make schools safer and serve the needs of all students! Police do not belong in schools and it is a terrible use of funds. Invest in social work, counseling, and mainly in providing real educational opportunities for students. History will judge you for the choice you make and in your heart you will know if you sided with fear and control or education and belief in the students and educators who want a better today and tomorrow.

My name is Penny Rosenwasser. I’ve lived in Oakland for 38 years, I volunteered in Oakland schools for 3 years, and I’m a teacher at the City College of San Francisco.
I stand with the Black Organizing Project and I urge you to adopt the George Floyd resolution for police-free schools: to get the police OUT of Oakland schools, and instead put the funds into restorative justice programs for our youth! And to bar any future contracts with law enforcement.
And if you have any doubts about this I highly recommend your watching Shakti Butler’s film, "Healing Justice.
As my Rabbi Dev Noily said so eloquently in their video: "Students need the space to learn and make mistakes without risking their lives, their bodies and their freedom. Police violence is overwhelmingly perpetrated against black and brown students and is a shameful expression of the structural racism that plagues our society. How can students learn and grow in an environment where they fear for their safety?”
    Thank you.

I'm an Oakland resident, parent of two OUSD students, and a member of a faith community. I strongly support the George Floyd Resolution to eliminate the police in our schools, and urge the Board to vote to support this! Black and brown students are disproportionately harmed by police presence, and do not bring safety to our students. We need to DIVEST in policing, and REINVEST in school counselors, mental health support, restorative justice practioners, and other community services. I also support a community-inclusive process that involves Black Organizing Project, staff, and community members to implement a safety plan for OUSD, that does not include the police at the table. Please join us and stand on the right side of history!
