I am totally against giving a for profit a forty year lease to any pubic property much less a historic school site. Give them a five year lease but this board already gave a forty year lease to the so called Military acade,y which immediately fenced off th Longfellow site, rmoving the only park in the neighborhood where kids had space to play. Let not do this again.

I support the renewal of BMA. The school has provided my student success in curriculum, social activities and overall welfare. The staff’s efforts in structuring an intimate learning environment has exceeded beyond my expectations. Transferring my child from a noncharter school to BMA has been the best thing for my child and it’s evident in the atmosphere for the other students, parents, families and staff that this is a healthy learning space for students to thrive in and to cultivate level headed human beings that can make a positive impact to the community.

I oppose this lease. It's a very bad use of OUSD assets. A better, more financially feasible lease would be a better deal for our supposedly strapped school district. The Board must do a better job of making financially prudent decision and will strengthen not weaken the future of OUSD. This lease gives away too much. Please do better by our children.

We need good schools as part of our public school system, bringing families back into our public schools, instead of continually diverting funds away into charter schools— which do not serve children with diverse needs

I support BMA because it offers places for students who don’t belong to the district but their parents work in the area so those parents can have an opinion that is convenient for them.

Aspire’s offer to serve more special education students in exchange for OUSD paying down Aspire’s debt, reducing their rent, extending the term or enlarging their school is outrageous. OUSD should not reward Aspire for doing what the law requires of them to do, Serve ALL Students. Keep Oakland facilities for Oakland public schools.

I would like for BMA to be approved, because of so many benefits that we have received from them. BMA isn’t just a school, but an extended family that many parents; especially parents of colors rely on for so many years. The quality of education, the choices, and care that my kids and those around then receive are exceptional. My husband family has been in oakland for generations, and experience so many challenges with the public school system. It’s refreshing to have a school that provides a high quality education in our community, without of traveling too far. This location provides families who work and contribute to Oakland, a place where students can thrive and be supported in their educational journey, and BMA has the perfect location. My family and I are so grateful to BMA, not just because of its perfect location, but because school values and staff are models school that has received national recognition for the amazing work that they do for Black and Brown scholar.

Charter schools are not true public schools. They don’t serve our most vulnerable students.

My husband and I made a decision to have our daughter in charter school for a reason. We appreciate the care and support from the teachers like Mrs Roumasset and Mrs Mary have with our family. We as a Nation are going through so much and have the support BMA give us hope.
    Thank you.

This is a great school that offers education to the students that need it most in the black and brown community that surrounds the school. Offering tuition free and high quality education is a neccessity in this community. I fully support keeping this school.

I am writing to support this agenda item for Berkley Maynard Academy. My children have attended this school for the past 5 years after moving from 2 other schools, finally finding a place where they are supported in more ways than I could ever explain. BMA students deserve a facility that is reflective of their potential; the facility should match the exceptional values that BMA exhibit!. This is a model school that has received national recognition for the amazing work that they do for Black and Brown students. The location of the school works perfectly as I work just 5 mins away showing it has very easy access for the many families who work and contribute to Oakland. I find it hard to understand why anyone would want to disrupt the logistical structure that is place of the hundreds of families who work and live in the Oakland are, all of who extremely benefit from the schools location.
