I am both a parent and an educator at BMA. My son attended K-8 and my daughter will be completing her last year this year. BMA is an excellent school and goes above and beyond to meet the needs of all our scholars. We provide a safe, nurturing, challenging learning environment and believe in each of our scholars and their aspirations. I support BMA 100% and am proud to be a member of this amazing community. For each other, with each other.

I support BMA 100% my son attended BMA as well as Cal Prep and has been very successful in his career choices due to BMA and currently a Sr in college. I have several other family members that attended BMA and was grounded for success. I support Prop 51. Charter schools are a big help in the OUSD being that the school district is over crowded. Not to mention I have a kindergarten enrolled in BMA and she loves it. I hope that you will take into consideration that this school is needed in our community. #1charterschoolBMA

don't do yet another give away to charter schools! OUSD needs all its money for our own students! Charge market rate, shorter lease, use loan funds for our own badly needed repairs.

I am an ousd teacher and I am opposed to this deal. OUSD schools have already suffered from many millions in budget cuts over the past few years, and with the uncertainty of the economy post Covid-19, it is likely to continue - OUSD needs every dollar of revenue from every source and to give up $17 million on this lease alone is unconscionable.

I support the renewal of BMA. My second kid José Leonardo Ibarra, is currently attending BMA. My first born Dayanara Yeletzy Ibarra, graduated from BMA in 2015 and is currently attending UC Berkeley. BMA provided my daughter with a very strong foundation no just educationally but also socially. BMA’s curriculum is very strong, and extremely progressive. One of the many aspects that I truly appreciate from BMA is the inclusion from all students without discrimination. That’s the reason why I didn’t hesitated to enroll my second born since 1st grade. Something else that makes BMA exemplary, is the overall support the entire staff provides to the students and their families. My wife and I work long hours and the thanks to BMA’s before and after school programs we were able to be, and knew that our kids were safe and cared for. I recommend BMA to all of my relatives and friends because I know the quality of their teaching and the care for their students.

    Sincerely.

I'm not sure what the urgency is to vote on this in a midst of a crisis. Any why a 40 year lease? This seems crazy to me. I oppose.

This is a shame! OUSD BOARD your LEGACY will be Closing schools, selling off property and giving away our schools for free to charter schools. The Oakland community will replace you with people who actually care about public education! This is reprehensible.

How can you give this ASPIRE a rent free lease simultaneously cutting the budget of industry schools? You continually say we will get a new building out of this deal. 40 years later is not a new building. This is disgusting! They don't even serve all of our kids and want more $$ or incentives to teach our SPED students! Absolutely Disgusting!

As a parent of a scholar that attends the school. Allowing BMA to use the facilities would positively impact the community. BMA serves a unique population of black and brown kids, to which they strive for academic excellence. Please help us in continuing to provide such services!

As the former director of of a preschool and after school/summer camp directly up the street, I worked closely with the BMA staff during the school year and was a bridge for many of the BMA students during the summer before returning back to school, BMA was also the first school I’d refer my graduating preschoolers to. Knowing that there’s a school in that area that truly is there for the kids and families, is why both my grandsons attend BMA and Why I still refer many families to BMA. Since coming to that area BMA has been A beacon of hope and life for many families in that area And hopefully will continue to be there for many more years to come.

As an Aspire Alumni of BMA and current BMA MS Teacher, our students’ are deserving of a neighborhood facility that is consistent and within the community just like their counterparts. Displacing students based on personal opinion is deteriorating and out of the control of students. Students should not have to worry year after year where their school will be located next. Our students are deserving of a place to call home.
