14-0585 Ratification by the Board of Education of a Professional Services Contract between the District and High Expectations, Oakland, CA, for the latter to coordinate with FSCP regional family liaisons to provide site-based professional development for teachers, to build teacher capacity for family engagement, and provide teacher-led academic workshops for families on literacy and/or math, strengthening relationships between teachers and families at Lafayette, Sankofa, REACH, Brookfield, Allendale and Fremont; work with FSCP regional family liaisons to design and deliver teacher training, and implement teacher-led academic workshops for families; staff coordination, teacher training time, and development of academic workshops for families; 360 families, 60 families per site, will be more engaged in their child's learning at home, have more communication with their child's teacher, and increase their child's attendance, as measured by OUSD family engagement survey, for the period of October 15, 2013 through June 30, 2014, in an amount not to exceed $25,000.00.

14-0577 Approval by the Board of Education of a Professional Services Contract between the District and Oakland Schools Foundation, Oakland, CA, for the latter to provide: 1. A highly-qualified Family Resource Coordinator that will develop and implement a robust offering of services to support the academic achievement of students through family engagement and education; 2. Monthly coaching and professional development for the Family Resource Coordinator in best practices; 3. Access to a network of resources and collaborative partnerships to expand and deepen services available to Roots families; 4. The Family Resource coordinator will work closely with the Community School Manager to plan, develop and implement parent workshops that will provide education and support to parents in preparing their middle school-age children for success in high school; involving parents and families in early preparation for high school will significantly improve student graduation rates; 5. The Family Resource Coordinator in collaboration with the Community School Manager and school attendance clerk will outreach to the families of students who are identified as chronically absent or in danger of being chronically absence to provide additional support and resources to improve student attendance, resulting in a significant reduction in the number of students not attending 95% of school days, as delineated in the Scope of Work, incorporated herein by reference as though fully set forth, at Roots International Academy, for the period of November 1, 2013 through August 1, 2014, in an amount not to exceed $70,000.00.
