25-1381 Adoption by Board of Education of Resolution No. 2425-0243 - Repealing - Resolution No. 2425-0084 - Directing Alternative Budget Adjustments For SY 24-25, 25-26 & 26-27 (Legislative File Id 25-0492, Enactment No. 25-0600, March 26, 2025).
Their has to be a priority when it comes to the budget and programs that benefit our students in special education but again, for all stuents, Music and Arts education could be a way to keep them engaged, in joy and in a safe and happy place, while providing ongoing multitherapeutic value to their everyday lives, and again, for students like my son, with consistency, would provide a pathway for him to gain other skills, but for right now, as i am his only music teacher, he is having daily practice, which is really helping him to stay focused everyday, while providing confidencew/ the encouragement to keep doing better. Please prioritize the funding and instead of taking these services away, get qualified staff in, that's really gonna help the children. the money is there, but also, i waiting to hear back about my request, also to remedy this violation of not following proper steps in taking the 1 million away. still waiting to hear back about my resolution as well.
We need to get back onto the proper rigorous primary budget process which takes place throughout the school year within the Budget & Finance committee and the full board study sessions and meetings. Doing last minute alternative adjustments at the end of the school year is clearly very risky and so easy to have unintended consequences.
I support fully Resolution No. 2425-0243 - Repealing - Resolution No. 2425-0084. No amendments are necessary. If board members wish to reduce contract spending in 26/27 and beyond please bring the suggestions into the normal budgetary process whether proposals are originating in ad hoc committee or anywhere else. The $125M cap has $93.8M of unavoidable expenses included which are necessary by law. This meant the further $30M would hit student facing contractors. There is no need to setup an alternative process with the prospective amendment. Board members can bring all suggestions into next years budget process with loads of time for debate
Please repeal Resolution #25-0492 as this cuts critical afterschool funding districtwide. As family with two full time in-office working parents, we need after care. For Chabot specifically, Bobcat Bridges is a phenomenal program and worthy of our support. Also I understand these funds cannot be used elsewhere and so we will loose them entirely, if true that seems like just poor financial stewardship. Thanks for your consideration.
Expanded Learning has been a game-changer for afterschool programming with “Yeah, Art!”. Their support has allowed us to bring vibrant, culturally relevant arts education directly to students who need it most. From vocal performance and visual storytelling to creative writing and movement, we’ve seen firsthand how this programming builds confidence, boosts academic engagement, and gives young people a safe space to express themselves.
Cutting this funding would be devastating to our kids. It’s not just about losing art supplies or teaching hours, it’s about losing a lifeline. These programs are where many students feel most seen, most inspired, and most connected. Without Expanded Learning, so many of our youth would lose critical access to joy, healing, and the creative tools they need to thrive. Please think about the overall impact that this decision will have on our community.
Please preserve funding for After School Programs—they are essential to keeping kids safe, supporting academic and social-emotional growth, and helping working families manage childcare needs.
I have read the proposed amendment and clearly, looking at each contract individually makes a lot more sense than imposing a blanket spending cap. So why on earth do you want to reintroduce the spending cap for 2026-2027? In my opinion, this is just asking for (more) trouble.
I support the repeal of this resolution. Aftercare is a necessity for working families and provides cultural enrichment and academic support for our students.
Please keep the funding for after school programs. Without them families will suffer. We look for the board to do what is right by students and hope you will keep this funding intact!
We strongly support repealing Resolution No. 2425-0084. These services are absolutely critical for the well-being of Oakland's children and for the stability of our school district. Oakland families rely on consistent, on-site services to ensure their children are supervised during a full workday. If aftercare isn't available, many families will be forced to move their children to other schools, or worse, make impossible choices about their employment.
Cutting these vital programs directly harms Oakland families and kids, who depend on full-time work to afford living here. We simply cannot continue to reduce support for our most vulnerable populations. Forcing parents to choose between their jobs and childcare will only accelerate OUSD enrollment drops and drive families out of the Bay Area. It's unacceptable for our children and families to bear the brunt of a mismanaged budget.
Please repeal Resolution #25-0492, as this cuts critical afterschool funding districtwide and these funds cannot be used elsewhere, so we loose them entirely. After school programs are critical to support families in an area where to make ends meet, households require dual incomes.
Aftercare programs are absolutely critical for working parents. Without the aftercare program, neither my husband nor I could hold our jobs (both recalled to work in the office 100% full time) and it’s no exaggeration to say our basic childcare needs would not be met and family life would be completely disrupted. Safe Passages is the glue that keeps our school year humming and it’s these ridiculous measures that make people move outside of Oakland. Please honor families and children!
Please ensure that funding for aftercare is restored. It is critical for our children and I am concerned about additional enrollment declines without a clear commitment for afterschool being provided at all school sites. We cannot afford to endure additional enrollment declines and we need to make sure that onsite services stay consistent so that parents have the peace of mind they need. Without aftercare being provided, I would have to move my child to another school where I can ensure that my child is looked after during a full workday. Thank you.
As the parent of a 1st grader who participates in her school's aftercare program, I urge you to reverse or amend this resolution and work with OUSD to ensure aftercare is continued to be provided, equitably and inclusively. As a solo parent with a full time job, I rely on our aftercare program to enable me to work and support my daughter, and she gets so much enrichment, exercise, and support from her program with Safe Passages. I believe that the board didn't fully understand the implications of passing this resolution, and that the district likely didn't have the full information about the restricted use of the state funding for aftercare and expanded learning programs. But now that you know, please make sure you take the necessary steps to work collaboratively with the district to reverse these harmful and inequitable cuts, and get things back on track for our students.
Hello we are working parents of a OUSD 3rd grader and rely on the Safe Passages aftercare program to live, work and thrive in Oakland. Please don’t take away these programs we depend on. We strongly support 25-1381 Adoption by Board of Education of Resolution No. 2425-0243 - Repealing - Resolution No. 2425-0084
Of course this should be repealed. It was a mistake to get passed in the first place. Board Members, please, fully read all resolutions before passing them. This should be obvious... and I thank you for being more diligent in the future.
I support the repeal of Resolution No. 2425-0084 however I'm concerned that pushing a $125 million budget deficit to 2026-27 (as I read in Amendment 2) will create chaos in our school.
I support the repealing of the resolution to cut funding to afterschool programming. Cutting afterschool funding will severely impact students and families.
I support the reversal of the march 26th vote on the cuts to aftercare. As a parent and former ousd student I understand how crucial aftercare is for students and their families. Not only does aftercare allow students extra time for learning and building community. It also gives families the flexibility to allow both parents to work. Cutting aftercare hurts the students, the parents, and the economy of Oakland.
Yeah, Art! supports Resolutions 2425-0243 and 2425-0243A, which repeal Resolution 2425-0084 and restore protections for after school arts programming funded through OUSD’s Expanded Learning Arts Enrichment Initiative. We oppose Resolution 2425-0084, which put essential student services at risk by capping contracts that support direct learning and enrichment.
The Expanded Learning Arts Enrichment Initiative is critical to student success. It enables Community Based Organizations like Yeah, Art! to bring professional teaching artists into classrooms after school, offering high quality arts instruction that supports academic growth, creativity, and social emotional development.
We thank the Board for recognizing the harm posed by Resolution 2425-0084 and for taking corrective action. We urge continued support for this initiative so that programs like ours can keep delivering meaningful, culturally relevant arts education that helps Oakland students thrive.

Please do the right thing. At least retain after school programs, if not grow and expand them.
