Repairing the harm caused by decades of disinvestment to Black students, families, schools, and staff requires OUSD to rethink their Blueprint for Quality Schools. Further disruptions will exacerbate existing disparities not only within the education system but also in other aspects of our communities lives. I am in support of this resolution to postpone the Blueprint Cohort 3 Decision to Fall 2022.

Strongly oppose school closures and mergers. Especially now, Oakland kids and families have enough trauma without losing their close community connection.

I support postponing all cohort 3 closures to occur never. Continuing to disenfranchise schools and flatlands communities is one example of how OUSD practices don’t match up with values we claim. Closing schools is never going to save money and will continue to push families away to charters or other districts. It’s time to do better for our communities.

Stop the closures/meegers of public schools. Our neighborhood school which was amazing was closed and broke our community’s hearts. The kids, families and teachers need and want all their schools.

Let us reconsider the framework in which we decide to close schools. Let us consider politicizes and procedures that were established with a Les set that consistently disenfranchises Black and Brown students and families. We must do better for these students and families.

Neighborhood schools provide stability and essential learning and when schools close, children and youth are deprived opportunities for growth and development Interrupting the schooling experience of our youth leads to a rise in disengagement and in dropout rates. From a concerned parent from Oakland Technical High School.

Our Students, parents, staff and faculty are readjusting to in-person instruction. Potential mergers and closures will interrupt and expand learning loss in our communities.

This is not the time to start closing schools. Children need a little stability in the midst of these unstable time.

I am in support of this resolution to postpone the Blueprint Cohort 3 Decision however I am not in support of consolidating or closing school sites. Measure B, J and Y bring a little over 1.6 billion dollars into our district for repair and upgrades to facilities. Get into better contracts that actually support student success. Closing schools sends the opposite message!

While I oppose class consolidation, and moving teachers to different schools, I also oppose kids in the district going without a permanent teacher. Why did the school board not have a better plan to hire teachers and cover classroom needs? Parents repeatedly told you that enrollment would suffer if you didn't open schools last year, and didn't have a clearer, earlier communicated reopening plan. Regardless, it seems the board has been caught flatfooted again. What is the school board plan to hire teachers and to bring back subs that are sitting out because of lack of testing (among other requests)?
