My name is Talmera Richardson, I'm a parent and a organizer. I stand in solidarity with the Yemeni community. It's been long overdue that Ousd hasn't honored or respect the Religion practices of the Yemeni community. Muslim all over the world take off for Ramadan it is a lack of Respect for their community and Ousd needs to honor it.
As a Muslim resident of the city of Oakland I believe that making our religious holidays also highlighted among the other holidays in the year would be a fantastic way for us Muslims to celebrate Eid. It's not fair that Muslim students are marked as absent from school for a reason there fellow classmates are allowed to be absent for there religious holiday. There are approximately 3.5 million Muslim students in the US and they deserve a holiday just like there fellow Christian and Jewish classmates. No one should be penalized for practicing their faith.
I think it’s ridiculous and absolutely a shame to not already have this declared as a national holiday and for our Yemeni children to be finally recognized this should be taught in school what happened to freedom of religion this whole school system is a complete joke and a waste of knowledge it should be better run. But if it was a Jewish holiday this wouldn’t never happened it would’ve been recognized racism still exists to this day what a shame!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It’s time the Yemeni community do something about it and make a change we’ve been silent for too long
I support this resolution because we have a very large Yemeni Muslim community in Oakland and we need the OUSD and the staff to recognize our Yemeni /Muslims community and to be supportive towards our cultural and religion beliefs.
Yes, I highly encourage this thing because it is essential for us to take time off on our special holidays so that we can go about our holidays calmly without the stress of work or study.
we all definitely support this resolution because our children need this and also us it’s our holidays so we want to have fun with our family and community We must make change for a better and successful future for our children.
