#There is no vaccine for child abuse.
I strongly support this decision because it will strengthen the personality of our children. I consider it a right of our children and consider it a fair decision.
As the Greenleaf TK-8 Librarian, I support W.-1 21-0948 Adoption by the Board of Education of Resolution No. 2021-0155 - Supporting Yemeni Students and Families in OUSD. Arab students need ongoing support for academic success, and have so much to offer Oakland. Recognizing Arab student's rich cultural contributions, identifying familial needs, and creating systems of support for them to thrive, is imperative. Please adopt this resolution.
I strongly support agenda item W1 21-0948 for the resolution supporting Yemeni and Muslim students, resolution # 2021-0155. Arabs and Muslims are a large number of the Oakland population, their culture, language and religion need to be more recognized and official.
This is a nation that is multicultural and multi-faith. Supporting this resolution will display the diversity OUSD hold space for our Yemeni/Muslim American students and their families, whove been marginlized since 9/11. Islamophobia is an American disease and OUSD can help our youth feel safe from it.
As a Muslim I support this resolution and I hope that it will pass. We deserve to have days off during Muslim holidays just like everyone else. Moreover, Muslim/Yemeni-Americans should have more chances and be able to get jobs within the Educational system.
I strongly support the resolution decision that will be beneficial for all of the Muslim American students and families.
We will be so glad to share our
religion and culture with American community.
As Yemeni- American parent and product of the OUSD school system. I first proud and honored to see this first of its kind to have the support of OUSD to assist our underserved Yemeni Community. The Yemeni community kids are one the fastest growing number of students in the school district.
I recall going from Sequoia Elementary to Skyline High school, there was limited resources for the Yemeni students to seek the right guidance due to the language and cultural barriers.
I support this act as a start of discussion to lay the groundwork and framework to see how can OUSD allow the Yemeni student especially our girls to become successful and mainstream English speaker.
I have several kids throughout the OUSD in various grades and I see the barriers and difficulty my kids are having to becoming mainstream English learners. For example, the use of the Arabic language can make it difficult comprehending the English language due to the grammar rules are polar opposite.
For the sake of my kids among all other Yemeni community kids, I hop that this act will come into affect and passes, in addition districts should add Muslim holidays to the school calendar
to bring happiness to the Islamic youth community
