I am the parent of 2 current Skyline students. The proposal to repurpose the Measure Y money away from Skyline and Elmhurst sends the message that OUSD cannot prioritize both lead abatement and these two strong, diverse school communities. It sends the message that these two school communities and the children there are not priorities for OUSD. It also sends the message that the district will not keep its commitment to the funding allocations Oaklanders voted for. Please don't further degrade these two sites by taking away this funding.

I am a parent of two Skyline high school students and a longtime Oakland resident. I care deeply about the health of every OUSD student and want to see the lead abatement process continue to be a high priority for OUSD. However, repurposing Skyline's Measure Y funds is not the way to do it. It's time for Skyline to receive the capital projects it needs to continue making it a top tier Oakland school and a quality school for all of its students and teachers. Skyline families strongly oppose the reallocation of these funds.

The re-visioning of Skyline High School needs to continue not be pushed back AGAIN because of mismanagement.

In an October 10, 2024 article on KRON it was stated "President Joe Biden recently set a 10-year deadline for cities like Oakland to replace lead pipes. The funding of around $2.5 billion would come from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law." Funding to solve this drinking water issue should come from the city, county, state and federal government.

This discussion needs to be tabled until more data and planning can be done. Testing needs to be done in the middle of a school week when the water has been running consistently so that the levels aren't giving uncharacteristic results. Procedures need to be put in place to run water after breaks.

In the meantime, please continue to purchase and install quality water filtration systems like the many that have been purchased by Skyline High School's PTSA. Don't forget to send at least one to Skyline.
