Please treat Cox Academy's children as Oakland's children and not as step children. Every child and staff in our school deserves to have a better facility which will provide a safe and healthy environment. As the rainy season begin, staff and children in our school need to make arrangements for leakage from the roof. In Rm: A119, when I was a first grade teacher, I had to move materials away from my counter top and place buckets under the leaking spots, so that when I come back from the Thanksgiving break, my materials are not damaged. This is a real panic on a teacher's side. This is just a bite size example. I can bring more evidence if you want. Please consider the real need from our side and vote YES, so that our school which TRULY DESERVES can make use of the Prop 51 funding available for building renovation.
    Sincerely,
    Ms.Senthil

    Dear OUSD Board Members,

Please consider approving the use of Prop 51 funds to make critical and necessary improvements to Cox school grounds. Just today the OUSD maintenance crew was at Cox fixing an exterior wall to a portable that was rotting away. Opposing funds would mean OUSD would continue to foot the bill (time and financially) in the constant and increasing demand for building maintenance. That is an option, but I can't imagine that draining the bank and using valuable OUSD resources is preferable over taking advantage of Prop 51 funding. This opportunity allows OUSD upgrade the building and reduce future maintenance costs dramatically for a fraction of the cost of fixing the OUSD building without state funding. This is win-win situation for both OUSD and Cox, and ultimately for those who matter the most, the students. I urge you to trust the negotiation process and vote to support Oakland students their community.

    Thank you,
Dedicated educator for over 20 years

I am writing to ask OUSD board members vote yes in support of this measure, so that necessary building maintenance can be made to the facilities at Cox. Our hardworking educators and their students deserve a safe facility where they can learn no matter the weather! I appreciate the amount of effort that has gone in to coming to this agreement, so I hope the OUSD board members bring this issue to the finish line by voting yes.

Dear OUSD Board Member, I urge you all to do the right thing and support the efforts of the Cox community to improve their facilities for the health and wellbeing of students and staff. Allowing Cox to access Prop 51 funds so they can begin much needed renovations on their campus will have a positive ripple effect on East Oakland for years to come. Please don't make this decision about politics and do what's best for kids and families. Thank you, Shawna Myers
