This will only help to benefit our community to open up to world wide cultures and traditions. A great way to start to learn more about the Muslim, specifically the unique Yemeni, culture as-well as the hardships they face.
Yemeni/Muslim parents do not feel supported by the school district due to a lack of culturally competent supports such as staff (teachers, tutors, interpreters, counselors, etc), programs (tutoring, weekend programs, etc.), and resources (understanding the school system, student clubs, college readiness, etc.). This puts parents in an unfair position to try to support their children’s academic achievement without the knowledge, supports, and resources to do so.
I’m the elected president of the Yemeni American Association in oakland and the Bay Area. We’ve been in oakland for long time ,sadly we’ve been ignored . We ask the board to vote yes and honer my community needs and get recognized .
My family and I highly support this resolution. Our children go to OUSD .it will help our the Yemeni and the Muslims at large. We been ignored and we ask the board to recognize us and support our family and students.
