H.-1 20-2017 Decision Public Hearing: Adoption by the Board of Education of Staff Report - Recommendations/Findings - Approving Education for Change Public Schools - Achieve Academy - Petition and Proposed Charter - Grades TK-5 - July 1, 2021 - June 30, 2026 (5 Year Renewal).
Renewing this chapter will allow my child the opportunity to continue to exceed through grade school as this school is doing tremendous work to support its students. The Achieve staff, even during this pandemic, is doing everything to support the whole child. I never seen a staff that target so much time in planning and teaching students.
I wanted to take a moment to speak on behalf of Achieve- not going to take valuable airtime during the meeting. Achieve is a true full service community school serving some of our most high needs families. La Clinica, East Bay Agency for Children, Seneca, Alameda Food Bank, and Unity Council provide direct services on site. With more than 200 Mam-speaking students, I believe we have the highest concentration of Mam-speaking families in the city. Achieve provides weekly meals and groceries to over 200 families serving 80+% of their kids, leveraging community volunteers to deliver food to almost 100 families weekly. They have made year over year gains, but we are DEFINITELY not there yet. The focus, however, on early literacy, daily tutoring in the classroom (tutor in every class trained in small group reading intervention), and dedicated differentiation time has been paying off. Achieve has a plan and a staff that has improving student outcomes as their primary driver.
