Many of our students and families have lost their jobs, barely have food to put on the table, and are terrified by the current crisis we're in. They need stability, not a heartless endless attack on their schools. The idea that OUSD would continue co-locating and closing public schools during this period is beyond disgraceful. No to all closures and co-locations!

It is heartless and harmful to close or co-locate schools while Oakland copes with this global pandemic.

During my wellness checks to families, we practice English a little, but mostly just ensure students have access to food and are not insecure with their rent. We connect students and families to hospitals, and to support for accessing unemployment. Every single student has told me how much they miss school - and how worried they are for both Oakland, and their home countries. Every time I talk to a student, I end the conversation with a smile, and then crumble into tears. Their concerns and worries are real.

As a newcomer teacher, my students have had incredible disruptions to their education already. Right now, we all need stability. Right now, the community has no way to provide meaningful input - especially if our School Board are not accepting our calls.

OEA and our school community demand a moratorium on closures and co-locations until the end of this pandemic.

Please do even consider school campus closures or charter school co-locations with a public school until this pandemic is resolved. We are all under extreme stress and are worried about family, finances, and health. We can deal with this issue once some sort of normalcy has been put in place. Let's remember where our priorities lie at this moment.

I join other is opposing any school closures or charter co-locations. This is particularly true when the entire community is under the stress of the pandemic. Please don’t add to that stress.
    Thank you
