As an OUSD SPED social worker and parent I ask this committee to advance the resolution on responsible device use. The school day should not add unnecessary screen time to our kids' lives. I especially support ending recreational Chromebook use at lunch, recess, and classroom free time — those moments should be for ative play, in person socialization, and rest! This resolution doesn't remove technology from learning; it ensures devices are used purposefully and safely, with guidelines shaped by the educators who know our students best. There are so many other activities we can support our students in during down-time to get them off screens. Please give it your favorable recommendation.

OUSD currently has no comprehensive, evidence-based guidelines on device use, even as research links excessive classroom screen time to lower achievement, anxiety, and reduced attention span. The resolution takes a balanced approach: grade-based guidelines developed with teachers, an end to recreational device use at lunch and recess, evaluation of curricula for game-like engagement designs, and protected access for students with IEPs and 504 plans. Please give this resolution a favorable recommendation
As an OUSD parent, I ask this committee to advance the resolution on responsible device use. Even with limits, my third grader spends a lot of time on the screen and while I understand the technology-focused world we live in, I also hope that she can continue to have time outside, real time with friends and peers, etc. I prefer the school not add unnecessary screen time to our kids' lives, especially at the elementary school level. OUSD children, including my child, has struggled because of classroom screen usage. Children are suffering emotionally and dread the screens. We need to regulate the usage and the programming!
