OUSD needs a policy of no phones for all grades from start to end of day, including in afterschool. Our elementary school had an ongoing issue this year with an upper grade student showing 2nd grade girls explicit content from his phone during afterschool - there isn’t enough supervision to prevent this. Ban phones. I work in our middle schools and I see kids make bad choices frequently because of access to social media, cameras, and texting on their phones during unstructured times in the school day. With their brains still developing this tech it’s dangerous and not ok on our campuses. Kids are safer when their phones are off ALL DAY. We need strict policies to enforce this. Thank you for your consideration.
