D.-36 26-1252 Approval by the Board of Education of Amendment No. 1, Services Agreement (Award of RFP No. 22-139OE Translation and Interpretation Services) by and between District and Excel Interpreting, LLC, Sacramento, CA (Parties), for the latter to continue to provide Translation and Interpretation Services to the District through a variety of means and platforms including but not limited to in-person/pre-scheduled interpretation, video or web-based (VRI), over-the-phone interpretation (OPI) and/or document translations, all services on an as needed basis, decreasing the amount of the Agreement by $66,764.00, reducing the not to exceed amount of $100,000.00 to $33,236.00, and extending the term of the Agreement from August 7, 2023 through June 30, 2026 to June 30, 2028. All other terms and conditions of the Agreement remain in full force and effect; and of a Data Sharing Agreement, by and between Parties, for the term July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2028, pertaining to the District's transmission of data to the second Party (Excel Interpreting, LLC)) and the protection by the second Party of such data, pursuant to the terms and conditions of the latter Agreement; each, via the Office of Equity. .

    We have worked to amend board policy now we need to start enforcing it, pushing back for departments to plan for change. These items alone represent a half dozen positions. I think these are exactly the kinds of contracts to pull and beg the questions, "How will this be done differently next year?"
    Security Cameras: $121,000
    Graphic Design: $34,500
    Fire Vegetation Removal: $150,000
    Translation:
    Similarly we are entering into a contract for Translation Services for $2.650,000 after laying off and eliminating at least 3 interpreter/translators. There are more translation contracts here that are being reduced but still make another $33,236, $51,660, $111,516, $151,522 This is almost 3 million in translation contracts. Again I would ask that you question this contract and how we are addressing this work next year. There is a lot of work to be done, its time for departments to plan for next year to be different.
