It is concerning that the description of the status of the Old Chabot Observatory site does not make it clear that: OUSD DOES NOT OWN THIS PROPERTY. OUSD is the tenant, not the landlord. (OUSD acquired the leasehold in a swap of its interest in New Chabot.) The reason I raise this issue is that OUSD appears to be awash in vacant properties and has the most responsibility for those it owns outright. I would hate to see those properties passed over for improvement and long-term revenue generation in favor of this one. I recall OUSD investing $500K in an emergency sewer repair, perhaps before the ownership status was clear. In addition, it seems the technology department values their location and freeway access to get to sites throughout the district for computer repair. On the other hand if *The City* wanted to take on the cost and responsibility of development that is ultimately also beneficial to OUSD, that is worth considering.
