I can't help but be concerned that this board majority is not up to the task of "developing a balanced, student-centered budget for the 2026–27 school year," much less a strategy for long-term financial sustainability that will serve our students well. Saying that this work "will require continued collaboration, transparency, and a focus on the needs of students and school communities" when there has been little to no collaboration demonstrated by board leaders. As for transparency, the Third Interim Budget Report, due June 1, was not included on the agenda. That work necessitates vision, strategy and enough of an understanding of district budgeting to assess potential impact of cuts and determine tradeoffs for protecting programs and staff. Furthermore, they have not demonstrated a willingness to make difficult decisions, meanwhile continuing to skirt their currently responsibility.
