As a parent in OUSD, as well as a full-time educator, I am alarmed -- anyone with any ethical standards should be -- regarding the feverish rise of Jew Hatred in the district. The OUSD Board and Senior Leadership Team must comply with the orders of the CDE. Don't give us lip service - ACTIVELY make fighting Jew Hatred in the district a priority. Staff must be extensively trained to recognize and counter Jew hate, especially in its most insidious antizionist form. As a educator, I watch how my colleagues, other teachers, are abusing their power in the classroom to indoctrinate students with their own political beliefs. They aren't encouraging "critical thinking" or social justice- they are forcing one-sided inaccurate and simplified ideological narratives onto impressionable minds. This is not education - it is coercion. I
CDE requirements are NOT suppressing free speech. They are protecting the rights of students. Teachers politics and ideology have no place in the classroom.
I am a Jewish OUSD staff member AND parent of Jewish OUSD students, and I find it appalling that there is pushback from my colleagues about complying with the requirements of the CDE’s findings of antisemitism in our district. We absolutely should mandate teachers have training on antisemitism, just like we have extensive training on other forms of hate and bias. As educators we should want to learn and do better and admit when we have made mistakes or harmed any students in our schools, and it’s clear that over the past few years Jewish staff and students HAVE been harmed. We need to ensure teachers themselves are not creating environments that are making students feel unsafe by promoting their ideologies instead of teaching approved and balanced curricula. This is not limiting free speech it is ensuring welcoming and hate-free schools. Let’s rebuild trust and make good faith efforts to show ALL our students they are safe, yes, even Jews and Israelis.
As a proud Jewish parent, I am saddened by the rise in Jew hatred in OUSD. I am in support of the CDE finding and want the OUSD Board and Senior Leadership Team to comply with the orders, do the right thing, and train our staff to be able to recognize Jew hate that should not be taught in the class. I do not agree with the teachers who feel that OUSD is suppressing free speech. The CDE states that THESE educators do not have the best interests of our students, specifically their opposition to teaching facts, which is absurd. OUSD should focus on core skills. My students need to learn math, science, history, literature, and critical thinking skills. Our students shouldn't be a teacher’s captive audience for hate filled messages. We should comply to the standards and curriculum the School Board has agreed to. Teachers need to provide a balanced, rigorous, and professional environment for all students. Personal views of teachers should not matter or be infused into the classroom.

OUSD should focus on reading as 70% of children read below grade level. My students need to learn math, science, history, literature, and critical thinking skills. As a Jewish parent at OUSD, I find OEA’s singular obsession with Israel to be odd. The way they also try to tie everything wrong with our society today to what is happening involving Israel is downright frightening. Imagine if there were repeated resolutions, teach ins, and rallies to support Russia’s quest to retake Ukrainian land, similar to Palestine/Iran campaigns to destroy Israel. Just as it would be wrong and horrible if the teachers were to inject support of Israel’s decades long violence against and suppression of Palestine, into the classrooms.
I just want our local schools to focus on bringing our community together. As it relates to Israel, Palestine and the Middle East this might involve some basic education about the history of the region.
But more importantly, I want the district to stop this unhealthy obsession with Israel.
It’s making my family less safe and achieves nothing. It’s selfish.
Please focus on core issues of educating our children!!!
I am upset and saddened by an attempt from teachers to undermine and single out one religious and cultural group. Teachers are not paid to indoctrinate children, yet THOSE teachers think it is okay to teacher what ever they want. Aren't THEY supposed to teach critical thinking, math, and reading? I am fed up with the constant push back when all I am asking is that Jewish students are treated like all other students, and teachers are not allowed to indoctrinate. How hard is it to enforce your board policies, to tell the Senior Leadership Team to remove teachers who are clearly not interesting in educating our children, they are interested in activism. Hate of all kinds if not tolerated in OUSD unless you are Jewish. I am in support of the CDE findings and want the OUSD Board and Senior Leadership Team to comply with the orders, do the right thing, and train staff to be able to stop Jew hate and recognize rhetoric that should not be taught in class. Thank you.
