Agenda Item
O.-58 25-2577 Adoption by the Board of Education of Resolution No. 2526-0184 - Denying Approval of Proposition 2 Charter School Facilities Program Application of Yu Ming Charter School for District property located at 4551 Steele Street, aka Tilden Site, in Oakland.
I am commenting to bring your attention to the critical position we find ourselves in regarding Prop 2. This type of funding hasn’t been available for 7 years, applications are coming due and earlier submissions receive priority. At this time, two strong charter schools have submitted notice to the district: East Bay Innovation Academy and Yu Ming Charter School. . I respectfully ask the board to move forward on these applications and oppose the denial. If these schools receive an award, the district can take more time to consider the individual Facilities Use Agreements needed. I am happy to talk with any board members or staff individually or as a group about this. Thank you for all your efforts to help us ensure that every student in Oakland is housed in a safe, high-quality home.
I’d like to ask the Board of Education to pull this item from the consent agenda and reconsider. As a supporter of Prop. 2 and a product of public schools, I’d like the state funding to go towards capital improvements NOW to benefit both OUSD and Yu Ming.
I respectfully submit my opposition to the Board of Education's denial of the Proposition 2 application, and support the related application. The application furthers Proposition 2's goal of funding the renovation of our public school buildings, and enhances future opportunities to increase OSUD high school attendance, particularly those that offer Chinese Mandarin classes. Thank you for your consideration.
As a California voter, I specifically supported Prop 2 because of the conditions of the schools I attended growing up in Oakland (K-12). I recall the poorly ventilated classrooms, the peeling paint, the constant broken toilets in the restrooms that lacked toilet paper - students attending schools in Oakland deserve better and should have the opportunity to not worry about the conditions of their school facility so they can focus on their academic and social development. I strongly oppose the Board's denial of the Prop 2 application to renovate this facility that would allow Oakland to foster stronger and more inclusive communities that will potentially feed into our local high schools.
Hi, I would like to oppose the denial. Prop 2 was voted by CA residents to renovate public school buildings and I would love to see the funds used accordingly. Thank you for your consideration.
As a parent of a school-aged child, I respectfully oppose Agenda Item O.-58 (25-2577), Adoption by the Board of Education of Resolution No. 2526-0184, and express my support for the related application.
As a California voter, I supported Proposition 2 with the understanding that these funds would be dedicated to renovating and improving public school facilities to ensure safe and equitable learning environments for all students. This is also an opportunity for OUSD to broaden high school capacity particularly at campuses that offer bilingual programs to prepare our students to become culturally aware and globally minded citizens.
I'm an Oakland resident/school age parent and I strongly oppose Agenda Item O.-58 25-2577 Adoption by the Board of Education of Resolution No. 2526-0184 and support the application. I, as a CA voter, approved prop 2 funding to renovate public school buildings. Oakland public high schools should look towards attracting Oakland students with upper level/AP Mandarin Chinese Classes.
Does anyone have the Zoom link?
OUSD should apply for Prop 2 funds on its own, benefit of district students.
