Especially in this time of budget pressure, it is critical for OUSD to maximize the use of its facilities for its students and community, as well as to bring in revenue when it can. Over the years, looking at the agreements with the City of Oakland, it seemed that while the city got use of fields and facilities that require extensive maintenance at a significant cost to the district, the facilities available to the district were for sometime use, and required little addition maintenance on behalf of the city (e.g. office or meeting space). How can OUSD make best use of this arrangement? Regarding Prop 39: I would like to see OUSD end the practice of multi-year agreements with little financial benefit to the district. These significantly burden OUSD's ability to decide about facilities use for its own programs---had more flexibility been available within the district, OUSD might not have had to have spent those millions on the new admin building.
