It is a likely a "NationaL Epidimic" of cuts to music and arts funding for students. In our district, funding has also been used for other purposes not intended for the students, and it's sad. I've seen so many students that could've benefited greatly, and I really feel for the students who have disabilities, i'm following through Facebook post and the petition, that this district is also doing the same. SInce you've already taken money, I also speak on the need for the board to think about the fact that this education is an alternative way for these students to learn, and with constant ongoing help, with no break in service to them, they can gain other skills. So, please think about that, and don't cut any more funding.

This is the second meeting of the year. Where on the agenda are the proposals referenced by Ms. Grant-Dawson to help stabilize the budget long-term, such as the consolidation of contracts, staff proposal to respond to the alternative budget adjustments and the attendance requirements for out of area school choice? The Facilities Committee already received a proposal to look at classrooms that may not be needed currently by a lower population of newcomers for use by TK and PK where demand exceeds available capacity. Where is the proposal to freeze hiring in an area of lower population and find opportunities for current staff to support other students? To come to longer term, sustainable solutions, the Board should be considering proposals area by area at every meeting.
I oppose any Further Cuts to Music and Arts education. I continue to Highlight the fact that 1 million in grant funding has already been taken away while my son continues to learn online, and i'm his only music teacher. If there's gonna be further cuts, please don't cut anymore funding
from our students, because it's causing more harm to their overall wellbeing, and the students, parents, caregivers, and communities all suffer.
I ask that differences between Board Directors are set aside to focus on the budget task that's critical for OUSD stability. As a parent and community member, I don't want to see this district revert to another fiscal crisis and lose local control. Please work together to figure out a solution that's not going to have issues later in the school year or possibly next year.
There are going to be cuts somewhere, so please be open to feedback from each other and the staff. You are responsible for steering the district in the right direction as possible.

Please find a way to move forward with the budget and make decisions that won't further hurt the children. You owe it to the students, and families.

Dear Board Directors,
I ask that differences between Board Directors are set aside to focus on the budget task that's critical for OUSD stability.
Thank you.
