I don't understand why some board members are trying to terminate our superintendent who has been a consistent, strong leader amid some of the most challenging years in OUSD history. It doesn't make any sense. Please help us understand what is going on! We support Kyla!

Back in 2019, when my son faced another school closure (he already suffered emotionally and physically at his last site) Ms.
Kyla worked w/the principal & board members to help stop the school closure, but unfortunately, COVID hit4 months later.
He continue w/loss from the past trauma caused by the district. I also need to once again ask the VP & president to state that the proposal made at the february meeting to cut 1 million from music will not happen. I took it as an attack against my son & all children like him. It's very hurtful that so much time has gone by, with no concern or response, i was signed up to speak at the last meeting, and never was called. To even propose cutting the only thing that'll help to gain other skills..Although, District Leaders & Board Members stated the proposal is illegal, we need to hear from Board Leadership that this won't happen. We're feeling like the Board leaders don't care about our most vulnerable, & their needs. Also, please keep kyla

In addition to what I posted previously, I am asking for the reason why she's being terminated. To terminate her without communicating to the community the reason behind it is not full transparency. The community may see your reasoning but we need to know before you act.

I am troubled to learn that Superintendent Johnson-Trammell may be leaving the district before her contract ends in 2027. Her tenure and contributions are to be recognized, and starting over with a new superintendent will show the community that the Board is not working in good faith.

If she leaves before her contract expires, it sends a message that it does not matter how invested a person is in making a difference in their community, they are disposable. Please consider the impact it will have on us.

As a parent of three OUSD children, I am urging the Board to please continue the contract for the Superintendent Dr. Kyla Johnson-Trammell. There already is a plan in place to replace the superintendent as part of her last contract. There is no reason to end her contract earlier. It would just be another example of OUSD setting a plan, not following through, and then reaping the poor results that follow. Please focus on navigating the budget deficit and conducting a proper search for a new superintendent instead of hastily throwing the current effective one out.

I strongly support the superintendent, Dr. Kyla Johnson-Trammell. It has been so helpful having a steady, courageous leader and we need to continue her contract to 2027, as the board decided in August. I strongly oppose terminating her contract early without a succession plan and for unclear reasons during a critical time for the district. In order to set the district up for success, the board will need at least a year to hire and plan for her successor. If the board terminates Dr. Johnson-Trammell early, this will end up hurting students, families, and teachers in Oakland and ultimately the district. I urge you to do what is best for Oakland students and support the superintendent.
