I strongly oppose any effort to force out Superintendent Johnson-Trammell at this critical time for our district and the Board's consideration of it in closed session. Superintendent Johnson-Trammell has led our district through very difficult periods with steadiness and integrity, and her experience and perspective are critical over the next two years as we select and onboard a new superintendent. Forcing her out right now will destabilize OUSD leadership across the district at a time when OUSD cannot afford any additional disruption, and harm students greatly.

I am troubled by the disingenuous suggestion by some on the Board that she was "stepping down as superintendent in September anyway". That is plainly belied by her contract and glosses over the invaluable role she is contracted to play in choosing her successor and setting them up for success. Any consideration of a change of this magnitude should be given a meaningful opportunity for public input and debate.

PLEASE stay focused on the long-term projects to improve the district: balancing the budget & leaving receivership; the Three R's, the initiatives in the Strategic Plan, finding a new Sup't.

PLEASE stop using precious time and energy on the Sup't contract (which was just approved 8 months ago) and on rushed ideas about restructuring the budget (which got stayed by the trustee anyways.) If you think it would help the district to adjust the Sup't role or change how we budget, spend time in the 3 R's process to discuss and debate and strategize.

Please FOCUS on long-term improvements and stop getting sucked-into short-term controversies.

I am deeply concerned with the reports that a majority of the board is considering firing our Superintendent with no cause or explanation. Superintendent Johnson-Trammell cares deeply about Oakland and has been a consistent and thoughtful leader during ongoing district financial crisis and the pandemic. Her willingness to stay on an additional 2 years to ensure a strong and smooth transition demonstrates her commitment to Oakland families. If you force her out right now, it will completely destabilize OUSD leadership across the district at a time when OUSD can little afford that and the ones who will bear the brunt of this will be the students and families.

Additionally, it is incredibly disheartening to learn this may be done without any transparency, especially when a majority of the board approved a contract extension just this past August. Please consider how this will impact students and keep Superintendent Johnson-Trammell in her role until her contract expires in two years.

I keep hearing from folks that you’re considering firing our superintendent. Please don’t.

OUSD went around in circles for decades before Kyla became our superintendent with a revolving door of leaders that didn’t stick around. It was a mess.

These next couple of years are going to be really challenging and we will be better off with continuity of leadership and for a new superintendent that can come in after many of the hard financial decisions are made and managed.

Even if you want a very different kind of leader, I believe that we will end up with a better process and a better outcome if our superintendent completes her contract and there is a proper search process that can find the best possible candidate with a reasonable amount of time to do so.

It was a gift that she extended her contract and has announced that she will be leaving in a couple years. Great leaders set up their successors to be successful. Please don’t jeopardize that.

I am a parent of 3 OUSD students at 3 different schools, and I oppose any effort to prematurely end the contract of Superintendent Dr. Johnson-Trammell.

We, the broad OUSD community of kids, families, and teachers, can not emotionally afford another disruptive event. Her leadership has been strong during the past tumultuous years. I worry this will be the last straw for many families who are trying to stay committed to our schools. This obviously will also have major financial implications when we are already in the midst of a financial crisis.

I oppose any effort the board is doing behind closed doors to alter the contract of the superintendent Dr. Johnson-Trammell. The board needs to be fully transparent about any concerns they have before taking any action.

As an OUSD/Chabot parent, I wanted to reach out in full support of Dr. Johnson-Trammell and against this early termination. Her strong leadership is crucial at this time- with the significant budget cuts, a steady hand on the wheel is extremely important. Removing her, especially without a replacement already selected and a comprehensive turnover plan built out, will be detrimental to our district and ultimately will have big negative impacts and consequences for our kids.

Please consider all the implications of a hasty decision like this, and continue to support Dr. Johnson-Trammell.

I strongly support the superintendent, Dr. Kyla Johnson-Trammell. It has been so helpful having a steady, courageous leader and we need to continue her contract to 2027, as the board decided in August. I strongly oppose terminating her contract early without a succession plan and for unclear reasons during a critical time for the district. In order to set the district up for success, the board will need at least a year to hire and plan for her successor. If the board terminates Dr. Johnson-Trammell early, this will end up hurting students, families, and teachers in Oakland and ultimately the district. I urge you to do what is best for Oakland students and support the superintendent.

Regarding Item reported by President Brouhard as discussed and not voted on during closed session at the March 26th Meeting - Item D4 "Public Employment - Superintendent of Schools". Please do not do anything to jeopardize the Superintendent contract which was extended to continue to end of June 2027 and passed by Board last August 28th. As per that published contract please focus on using the time (two more school years) on finding a well qualified successor.
