F.-2 24-2162 Continued discussion by the Measures N and H Commission of the history of Young Adult Program and Measure N with High School Network Superintendent and/or designee(s).
I think that measure H&N will help us students improve not only our academic life, but to also have the full funding to go on education trips and go to fun trips. Also we can have more classes at Peralta community colleges and the students want classes of their choosing, If we don't have the proper funding we don't have the classes we would like to be in. But also we need the funding to not only have to do classes but instead you never gave us the proper funding. If we don't have the funding we can't sit by as we are being discriminated against, so don't make the same mistake that you did before.
Sincerely,
Dear Commissioners,
I am a OUSD Young Adult Program Student, Our program is part of OUSD community and we deserve to be included with all other students. Please remember I am a member of this community and deserve all you can give us.
I continue to oppose the position of YAP students being put last and not being provided with FULL funding that they desperately need.
Due to the districts continued actions of not supporting our most vulnerable students, too many students lives have continuosly been turned upside down, with no chance of recovering without Very Extensive and Intense Consistency through various services. Our children need a multitude of services and options available to them, so that they can be guided in the best way possible. The district must take responsibility to make up for decades of harm caused by not giving our most vulnerable students a chance to be all they can be, Please change this NOW and fully fund the YAP program to the maxmimum extent possible. I pray in the case of my student, that their will be endless opportunities and funding to him and all the students entering the program. They need the most help, my FULL hope is relying on this program. PLease provide full funding now.
This report demonstrates, once again, that while OUSD staff were aware of YAP students, they neglected to provide YAP with the same communication as other secondary schools. Meanwhile: where is the followup on two issues raised in earlier commission meetings: communications with Ophelia Gomez who was head of YAP when parcel tax funding for Linked Learning first came into the district, and whether a legal opinion was rendered internally respecting YAP’s eligibility for the funding? Moreover, there is no examination of communication of YAP about the application process for funding in 2023, when OUSD gave YAP a district school site code. How long will it take for this Commission to provide for current students who have never had the benefit of these funds, some of whom will leave the district this year?
