I strongly oppose the denial of the LPS Oakland R&D renewal. I have been the Director of Technology for LPS over 15 years and witnessed LPS Oakland weather many challenges, especially the Pandemic. The staff and teachers are committed to the success of their students and I believe under the leadership of Dr. Brent Daniels and Principal Peng Peng Jiang the school is moving in the right direction including having increased their academic numbers for this year bringing them up to a mid-tier school. Renewing the charter for two years will put them on the fast track to success! The community needs this school!

My name is Javier Montilla, and I have been a Spanish teacher since 2019. Since joining LPS Oakland R&B in 2023, I’ve seen a strong commitment from administrators, teachers, and students to strive for excellence. Despite challenges, I’ve always received the support needed to succeed as a teacher and provide students with resources and opportunities to learn effectively. I’ve participated in school teams and professional development initiatives to improve students' academic performance and social-emotional well-being. The dedicated staff works tirelessly to help students from diverse backgrounds reach their full potential. Discontinuing the charter would disrupt this growth and deprive students of a supportive environment where staff genuinely cares for each individual.

I strongly oppose the denial of the renewal for LPS Oakland. Over the past two years, I have collaborated with their educators to improve instructional practices and student progress in mathematics. As the Associate Director of Instructional Design and Mathematics at ConnectED National, with 12 years of experience in Oakland education, I have supported efforts to strengthen teacher capacity and foster student-centered learning. The teachers at LPS Oakland are passionate about improving outcomes for students and are dedicated to helping them experience success and joy in math learning. Teachers have improved planning and collaboration, and students are engaging in deeper learning experiences. With plans to expand the use of Illustrative Mathematics and Desmos, LPS Oakland is poised for further growth. Denying their renewal would disrupt this progress and harm the community. I urge decision-makers to approve their renewal. Thank you for considering this perspective.

    Good evening,

I submit this comment in strong opposition to the recommendation against LPS Oakland. LPS Oakland offers a well-rounded education that prepares students by prioritizing every aspect of student achievement: academic and social-emotional from the start of grade 9 through to graduation. This staff is deeply committed to each student's success, as evident through collaboration and data-driven decision-making.

The focus on literacy and math instruction exemplifies their dedication to meeting students where they are and providing targeted support. Whether in whole-group or small-group instruction, LPS teachers focus their efforts on ALL students. Success at LPS is not measured by a single test or data point; it’s defined by consistent progress, graduation rates, and fostering a love for lifelong learning.

For these reasons and more, I urge the board to approve the Petition and Renewal for the 2-year term beginning July 1, 2025 pursuant to Ed. Code Section 47605
    Thank you.

Oakland LPS should continue operating as a charter school. Our students and staff has worked vigorously to make LPS a healthy environment for learning.
