23-2285 Board of Education Study Session with the Superintendent of Schools or designee(s) regarding Preparation for 2024-25 Budget Development Process (BDP), Review and Communications Regarding Budget Development Options Coming October, 2023.
This presentation may be at a high level, but my observation is that it is CRITICAL that when cuts are proposed they are brought forward in detail, so that the trustees and the public understand clearly what specific programs and positions (and students!) will be affected, including explicitly if there is an alternative within the district to carry out the work ---or not. What about a one year (formal or informal) moratorium on new board resolutions and policies, to allow time to examine current resolutions and policies and thoughtfully determine which should continue?
I saw on the Superintendent’s slide from last meeting that ADA has been around 92.5% since the beginning of the year…a good step. I note that in years where there is no strike attendance tends to be stable. How does OUSD do better on the next round of contracts two years from now? Family navigators and others with direct relationsihps with families are critical to attendance. Prioritize direct service and name it.
