Dear Facilities Committee,
I want to support and applaud the hard work you are doing and bring light to needs at Skyline High School. The school is in desperate need for the allocated fund ($10 million) to perform energy upgrades to the power grid to make the school inhabitable in the summer and winter. Let's make sure that Skyline, one of Oakland's comprehensive high schools that serve all OUSD students gets the upgrades we desperately need to make the campus ready for the future. Thank you.
Hello, I am a teacher at Skyline.
Skyline needs updated AC and heating systems in multiple buildings. The AC and heating units consistently don't work until multiple work orders (and multiple weeks) have passed. AC still fails to successfully cooldown classrooms in the 60s building when sun heats up classrooms above 80 degrees.
Hello, I am a parent at Skyline High School. I have been a parent at Skyline since 2017 when my first son started at Skyline. For all of those years Skyline has been waiting and desperate for upgrades to our power grid, AC/heat, and upgraded bathrooms. The Upgrade to our power grid is of primary importance as without that upgrade the air conditioning and heating systems cannot happen. Skyline needs your support as our students and teachers are suffering in over 100 degree classrooms on hot days which greatly effects student success and learning. Skyline is in the hills but it is not a "hills" school. We are a title one school that serves students from all over Skyline to our wonderful community and teachers so they can learn and thrive. Please support our students and teachers succeed by giving Skyline the money to upgrade our power grid, AC/heat, and upgraded bathrooms to support student well-being and success.
As a Magnet school, Melrose Leadership Academy serves the entire city with a focus on Restorative Justice and Spanish bilingual education. It Is understandably very popular and needs full proposed funding for both campuses in order to serve as many students as possible. Thank you for all your hard work on this!
I am writing to encourage the passage of the Measure Y funding to help make Skyline the school my family needs it to be,
