I’m deeply saddened to hear about the proposed $13 million in cuts to the Measure Y funding for Melrose Leadership Academy where my daughter attends. MLA is a truly special TK-8th grade Spanish immersion school that currently is split between two campuses since the middle school expanded, putting undue strain on admin and staff who must split their time at both campuses. The stress of two campuses has made hiring a principal incredibly difficult and we have had two principals resign within 6 months of each other. We currently are without a principal and are struggling to find candidates who are willing to take a two campus position. These Measure Y funds allow us the chance to build a new building on the Maxwell campus and become one school again, as is the intended vision. I am urging you to please oppose these cuts and grant MLA the full use of our granted Measure Y funds.

Thank you so much for your time.

Hello, I am an OUSD teacher and parent and I'm writing in support of continuing to invest in the San Antonio community through Measure Y funds. I have worked at Garfield for 8 years and we continue to have major facilities issues. I've taught in classrooms full of fourth graders where it was almost 100 degrees, which as you might imagine makes teaching and learning very difficult. We regularly have overflowing toilets and sinks due to old pipes. We also have a rotting cafeteria and apparently throughout the school there are many places for mice to enter. Please, our students deserve a more hospitable school environment!
