Hi. My name is Max and I go to Sequoia. My friend Mercy was in a class at Sequoia. We used to play basketball and we talked. He left because he was in room 33 and that got closed. I feel sad that we don't get to see each other anymore. I hope he is doing ok.
I teach at Manzanita SEED elementary, sharing a campus with Manzanita Community.
I attended the CAC meeting on Monday, frankly because I consistently learn things there that are not transparently and proactively shared through other channels. As a special education teacher, I live in a constant state of anxiety: it feels like the other shoe is always about to drop.
I hoped that I’d learn a little bit more about the budget as well as perhaps get an update on the proposed cutting of 40 support staff positions.
Instead, I found out, in this public forum, that OUSD had chosen to close every special day class on my campus.
Without…telling ANYONE AT MY SITE in any other way. I had to hold that secret myself, look at colleagues, families, and kids and pretend I knew nothing, so that eventually, the right people could tell my colleagues, our families, our students.
This is unacceptable. This undermines trust. This belittles children, families, and teachers.

Please do better.
