As a District 4 resident I strongly oppose budgets that cut essential staff and merge schools. I urge you to cut from a top-heavy management and vote no on the proposal.
As an Oakland resident I deeply oppose any attempt by the board to implement an austerity budget on the backs of workers who have sacrificed so much throughout the pandemic. There is no need for a hiring freeze or to pit workers against each other. OUSD has a bloated management and administration budget and underpaid workers compared to all surrounding school districts and any cuts should come straight from the bloated budget for administration and management. I urge the board to vote no
No cuts, no mergers! It's not clear what amendments will be made to last week's awful resolution, but it simply is not acceptable to cut essential programs and workers and to merge schools supposedly because that's the only way to increase teachers' pay or meet other OEA's bargaining demands. If an "engagement process and equity analysis" is used to pacify protests against mergers that will nevertheless be implemented against the will of some of the targeted schools, it's not acceptable.
