W.-3 22-1627 Adoption by the Board of Education of Resolution No. 2122-0096 - Reversal and Rescission of School Consolidation.*
___
*Introduced by named members of the Public pursuant to Board Bylaw 9322.
OUSD Board of Directors: Rescind the reckless decision to close and merge schools that was made without sufficient notice, equity impact analysis, or engagement with impacted communities. Start repairing the harm these decisions have causes to Oakland students, families, teachers, and staff. We demand community not closures.
Please bring Resolution 2122-0096 to a vote. School closures are harmful and this process was a disaster. Bringing this resolution to a vote on June 29 is the least this board can do to begin to repair the harm done to our communities.
OUSD can not afford the optics of black women being arrested in front to their kids for trying to keep their neighborhood school open. This type of event will stain OUSD for decades to come. Therefore, OUSD needs to reverse its decision to close and or truncate these schools. OUSD is flush with financial resources now and Karen Monroe has been removed from office. Amy Eng and Sam Davis need to change course.
Please pass this resolution. The County rescinded the Lack of Going Concern letter, the state is increasing the budget, OUSD has received a grant for Community Schools, some of which will be lost if you close these schools, and there is a new ACOE superintendent. All of these occurrences taken together with the fact that there was no process of community engagement point to rescinding the closures and rethinking the process. Please do so.
I am in support of this motion. School closures harm communities and there was no impact analysis done. Please vote yes and listen to the overwhelming voice of the community.
I am writing in support of the Community not Closures resolution that will introduced as new business in the school board meeting. I am eager for you to pass this legislation in the board meeting next week.
I strongly support the reversal and rescinding of the overly-hasty and unthoughtout closure of elementary schools in Oakland and urge the Board to return to the former configuration of schools. This will avoid further disruption in children's lives and the regrouping of support systems. The Board must follow appropriate procedures if it even begins to think of disruptions for disruption's sake. FUND OUR SCHOOLS, DON'T CLOSE THEM
I support this resolution and I predict that the majority of the community who shows up for this meeting will support it as well. School closures are traumatic for students, families and communities.
I support any plan or policy that ends racist school closures
