R.-3 22-1526 Public Hearing* and Adoption** by the Board of Education of Resolution No. 2122-0088 - "2022 Oakland Unified School District College and Career Readiness for All Act" or as "Measure ___" [designation to be assigned by Alameda County Registrar of Voters] - General Election - November 8, 2022.

Measure N money has been used to create career pathways for many of our students in the community who want to develop job skills and go straight into the workforce. It has also allowed many of our kids within the community to gain exposure to many different careers educational opportunities that they probably would never attempt to try because of fear of failure or lack of interest. For me, teaching Computer Science has allowed me to really influence more of our minority children to look at the tech industry as a real option. Id like to believe that the young Latino girls that have decided to pursue degrees and work in the tech industry were a direct result of working with partners in the field (Facebook, Google, LinkedIn) and with different programs we partnered with were a direct result of our CS pathway that is funded by Measure N money. I believe it is necessary to continue pushing our kids forward in our community and giving them as many options as possible. Reauthorize N.
I support putting the reauthorization of Measure N on the ballot. I'm a computer science teacher at CCPA and we receive 243k in Measure N funding. This funding helps support our Computer Science Pathway - one of the few that we have in the district. I have seen first hand how computer science education at the secondary level increases the number of under-represented minorities in tech. Measure N allows educational opportunities that our students would otherwise not be exposed to - from field trips to tech companies, internships in the tech industry, and gaining valuable 21st century skills that help them be college and career ready. Our pathway culminates with our seniors designing and coding a prototype app to address an issue in their community. This Youth Participatory Action Research Model, combined with the skills they gain in their computer science pathway are an essential part of our success at CCPA, and I hope the board votes to put the reauthorization on the ballot this fall.
