Please follow the science and make the right decision to remove mask mandate for our school aged children. Our school district is becoming a joke for the rest of the world.

No more masks in schools for our kids for a disease we are vaccinated and boosted against. Please change the mask mandate so it’s a choice not a requirement. There are so many issues in the schools socially from kids being in masks. Every school has them and knows it. Do not let teachers unions dictate health and safety policy. We need to free our kids of masks from March 11th

Please follow the updated student mask guidelines adopted by CDPH/ACDPH, and do away with mandatory masking for all OUSD students & staff as of March 12. National & state public health officials are now uniformly aligned that masking is no longer required in educational settings w/ risk levels like those in Oakland. Neighboring districts in our county, & large ones statewide, have aligned with state/county guidance including Alameda unified, San Leandro, Piedmont, Livermore, Dublin, and Pleasanton and statewide in San Jose, Long Beach, Fresno and SF. OUSD is not a public health agency, let the public health experts be the decision makers here. Children & adults can go to ANY indoor location across CA (minus hospitals & prisons) except their school without a mask. If you continue to require public health mitigations beyond state/county requirements, you perpetuate the lie that schools are somehow less safe than surrounding communities, something which has been disproven time and again.
